Re: speeding ticket
Best to avoid the speeding ticket
- don't be the fastest car on the road
- use a good RADAR detector
- If you get nailed, as soon as you know it, pull over
- You get extra credit if you pull over before the cop has his lights on
- roll your window down as you pull over, put both hands on top of the steering wheel, where the cop can clearly see them
- wait until he asks for your license, then tell him what you are doing to get it (i.e. - "it's in my wallet in my back pocket")
- Make the cop feel safe
- Don't argue with him
- Don't offer excuses
- Do just offer something light "Yeah. It was a nice day, had the windows down, cruising and not really paying attention to my speed"
If you do all that, chances are he'll run your license and if he sees there's nothing on your record, he'll let you off, or write you a warning. Worst case scenario, if he writes you a ticket, he may drop the speed down to less than 20 over the limit.
If you do get the ticket, in Illinois...
- plead guilty and request supervision (it will cost you, but, nothing ends up on your record)
- If you have to, take the traffic school option (again, it will cost you, but, nothing ends up on your record)
If you're on supervision, DON'T get another speeding ticket!
This advice is based on my own experience.
- I have *never* had a speeding ticket (or any other moving violation) on my record.
- I *never* drive the speed limit. Usually, not even anything near it.
- I do get to talk to a cop usually at least a few times per year

WHAT TO DO IF YOU GET A TRAFFIC TICKET
This advice was sent by a retired State Farm agent! This system has
been tried and it works in every state.
If you get a speeding ticket or went through a red light, or whatever
the case may be, you're going to get points on your license and a
surcharge on your auto insurance. This is a method to insure that you
DO NOT get the points.
When you get your fine, send in a check to pay for it. If the fine is
$79.00 make the check out for $82.00, some small amount over the fine.
The system will then have to send you back a check for the difference.
However, here is the trick: DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHECK! Throw it
away! THAT'S RIGHT..THROW IT AWAY...
Points are not assessed to your license until all Financial Transactions
are complete. If you do not cash the check, then the transactions are
NOT complete. The system has received its money and is satisfied and
will no longer bother you.
This information comes from an unmentionable computer company that sets up the standard databases used by every state.

Re: speeding ticket
FP...right on my friend...as soon as you press down on that peddle, you know the consiquences of what you are doing...and at the speeds we are sometimes playing, you had better picked the right spot...meaning not much if any traffic, crossroads, pedestrians, etc...just be safe...but know you may get caught if you don't pay attention to your surroundings..

I don't try to speed but not having cruise control on the highway was my main problem. No cruise control with a V8 yet.
