Default new to the crossfire

What's up? My name is Bryan. I'm from virginia beach, VA. Not really sure if i'm postin this in the right section, but I figured it was close enough.

Basically, I have several questions about the vehicles.

I'm slowly finding info on the motor's. but what about the transmissions back? I'm wondering what kind of transmission is in it and what the drive shaft length and size is. Same with the rear end set up. I'm basically looking for all the info I can get on the vehicle.

also, you'll proly be wondering. I don't own one yet, but I'm looking at swappin all the componets into my current vehicle.

Bryan ...

The tranny, engine and all mechanical components on the Crossfire are the same as the 1997-2003 generation Mercedes Benz SLK (R170 in Mercedes-speak). Chrysler only supplied the design for the sheet metal.

Most of the hard core data you'll need to swap out Crossfire mechanicals can be found on the Benz World site. What Chrysler-specific technical information on this board can be searched in the "Technical & Modifications" section.

Search, read, understand ... If there's a specific question not answered in posts or attached documents or stickies (e.g. "how long is the drive shaft on a 2005 base coupe?"), there are many specialists on this board who can help.

Good luck and welcome to the community.

Welcome Kota!

Mechanicals will only be a small portion of your problems. Electronically these things are so tied together it's a electrical nightmare to try anything of this scope. The PCM is tied into the SKREEM security and all related sensors. Even the transmission has to be kept with the engine for anything to function.

Not trying to scare you....just inform. Best of luck on your project.

FYI......be prepared for heavy flaming from those who think it's blasphemy to butcher the SRT's guts to transplant into a Dakota.

haha yea, wiring is nothing I'm new to. my '03 has wires to everything, it's like tuner. and I've helped do swaps on 240 sx's, hondas, etc... so I'm aware of the spaggetti pile I may have to deal with.

and for the flamin part, used to that too. before I was gonna build my 3.9 to turbo. but v8 swaps are the popular thing so alot of people, esp older mopar enthusiests, usually say "just get a v8"

alot of people on my other home forum, customdakotas.com are pretty supportive of it, and my friends locally here. so far I've gotten more support than negativity. but in the end, as long as it's what I want that's what really matters. lol
