List of Chrysler dealers to be eliminated
Re: List of Chrysler dealers to be eliminated
Of the 50 that are slated for closure in TX, three are close by: two in Harlingen, one in Brownsville. They're part of larger groups (I think one of the Harlingen dealerships also sells over 6 other brands, both domestic and foreign), so I doubt the dealerships as a whole will suffer. Most of the dealerships here seem to specialize in trucks and SUVs. With the exception of the PT Cruiser and 300, it doesn't seem that there was much of a demand for other cars. Perhaps these dealerships are the 'low performers', and the closures, though perhaps painful, are merely 'good business'.
And in my own experience dealing with the service departments for my own cars as well as my work-assigned vehicles, mechanics here are not very well trained other than with the information supplied by the car manufacturer; considering the MB parts in the car, I think the only way anyone can hope they can find a XF-trained mechanic is if the dealership is one that has MB as well as Chrysler.

The only time I've ever seen MB share a store it was with BMW and/or Porsche, and perhaps another high line import or two.
Re: List of Chrysler dealers to be eliminated
Just reviewed the list. I sure feel for the people that work at these dealerships. We lost about 10 dealerships in the immediate DC area. The list looked particularly heavy in the Mid-west. Most of the dealerships here that will close are Dodge, they will be folded into the existing Chrysler Jeep dealers I would guess. Of particular note .... Wyckoff Chrysler is closing in NJ. They have been a staple for inexpensive parts for all my Chrysler products. Their service was second to none, I hate to see them go.
We are also losing Fairfax Chrysler, the place I got my first PT Cruiser back in 2001. Sad to see them get the axe, they let me sit out in the service bay and watch them work on my car. Always on time with repairs, one of the best dealerships I have ever done business with and I've owned a lot of cars in my 59 years. Can only wonder what these actions will do to the economy, especially when the GM dealer cuts go through.

Where to take the car now??
Re: List of Chrysler dealers to be eliminated
Not to Whitey's Auto Mall down the road in Mansfield, Ohio ... the one Chrysler/Merc operation I was aware of ...
Several people have posted on this board that our best bet is to develop a good working relationship with an independent Mercedes specialist, preferably one who likes the R170 models.

This whole thing is just not right. Independent dealers that have stuck with Chrysler through hard times and yet are still profitable are being eliminated. I predict there will be a lot of lawsuits coming.

Re: List of Chrysler dealers to be eliminated
FOX News Chicago tonight was at a south side dealer open since 1919 covering the story of the closing of Chrysler dealers.
They said most of the inventory at that location is being sold a 50% off sticker and they had a Red Crossfire Roadster in the showroom and the news gal covering the story was sitting inside the car with the top down.
It was shown in at least 7 different camera shot in the showroom during the news story.

Into the field...
My better half has a Jones for a 300 so I visited four of the eliminated Chrysler dealers for one.
All I can say is ... three of them had such sad-aresed non-inventory they deserve to go. Two of them aren't even tied to Chrysler's "buy it now" computerized system WTFFF???
The other is offering an 8K discount on a 300 Touring.
Why is it so few Amerikkkan bizinesses get the idea they have to make something GOOD and AFFORDABLE? Don't use the excuse "high wages" Foreign manufacturers can pay Americans living wages and still make a profit...

So, as we, the public, ponder the logic of closing retail outlets thereby alienating consumers, perhaps there is a very logical reason to do it.
Soon to own 70% of GM and in complete control of Chysler, the government is in the Drivers seat of the domestic auto industry.
With a major stake in the larger banks, the opportunity for political favortism is ripe.
As a consumer, we can do nothing but accept whatever flavor of sausge DC decides to produce. But that is not the worst of the story.
The US government should not own businesses. Here is why.
The other list: It gets worse - Josh_Painter’s blog - RedState
Even if it is not true, it is possible, and we can do little about it.

Re: List of Chrysler dealers to be eliminated
It is unconstitutional to take ones property without due process. Fifth amendment to the US constitution.
And we were worried about attacks on the second amendment.
Most dealers operate on profits from service and used car sales. Not new product sales. They cost the factory nothing, they cost the Chrysler corporation nothing. So why are we (yes we, we are the government)closing them?
Shouldn't it be up to the individual dealers to determine if they should continue or not? That is how it works in a "free enterprise system."

And as for government failing at the "intervention" game, critics go to great lengths to avoid mention of one of the few bright spots of George H. W. Bush's tenure ... the Resolution Trust Corporation.
Now let the fact-bashing begin
