Re: Fathers Day - June 15
My Dad owned and operated this Sunoco full service station in 1959
My love of cars began when I was a youngster.
My dad worked on his own cars and I helped by handing him the tools.
He taught me how to drive when I was 12 years old.
He had a 1966 Chevelle with a manual shift "3 on the tree"
We remained close throughout the years and he and my mom always lived close by.
We took a ride on a Sunday afternoon to Chicago and he was standing on the steps of his grade school waving just as he had when he was a boy for the class photo.
I took this last picture of him 5 weeks before he died.
I title this one "The goodbye photo"
He passed away peacefully at home with no known illness at the age of 76.
In memory of a great dad
11/20/26 - 6/11/02
Mom is still well and I see her every week
They had 52 years of marriage together before he passed away.

Re: Fathers Day - June 15
I consider that I have two fathers. The pictures are of them at a time when so many of our young men and women were in harms way.
The News clipping picture of my Dad has him in North Africa building a metal runway. It was carried by the wires and printed in many newspapers which, at the time, were proud to show Americans the good our military was doing.
The other picture is of my Father in-law enjoying a well deserved posting in Naples after a bloody and brutal campaign to rid the country of German troops. He was on a boat to Japan when the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. A birthday present from President Truman.
Both men came home with purple hearts. Both came home proud. Not just of their service, but of their country and what it had done, sacrificed for the world and for freedom.
Both men built homes and families. Sent their kids to schools and churches and helped to build the greatest nation on the planet. Ever.
My Dad taught me life's lessons from the perspective of a poor dirt farmer. Self reliance and to never quit.
My father in-law gave me good consul and a wonderful wife. He is still living at 84 and is my best friend.

Here is a pic. of me and my dad last year at my 25th wedding anniversary party.
He is the life of the party, loves to joke around and always with a smile.

I'm proud of my father an immigrant from a poor town in Italy, grew up on a farm with no running water or electric he came over in 1953 by boat at the age of 18 along with his parents.
He's always proud to say that the first thing he did when he came over to this country was to enroll
into night school to learn our language.
He became a citizen and a proud american, I never forget when I was a kid he was putting stickers of the American flag and the Italian flag on his car, he told me when you have two flags together you must always have the American flag first. Today he has a flag pole with a huge American flag and a small Italian flag below it.
He is a great dad to me and my 2 brothers, he worked allot but always found time to play ball or take us to the movies, circus, fairs.
He worked for the Long Island Railroad retiered after 30 years at the age of 52
Happy Fathers Day!!!

Not the best pic in the world, but was just taken last saturday in Tenn at the Hooters. A couple of months ago he had 2 strokes and a heart attack, so i am just glad he is still here to take bad pics at Hooters with me. I'm the tattooed guy and pops is the one eating fried pickles (yuck!).
Got some better pics at home that show him over in Vietnam and running his '66 GTO out at the Bithlo track in the 60's. Will scan when i get home.

Great idea Gary. Here are a few pics of my Dad taken in May 2005, a few months before he past away of a brain tumor. This was the last time we spent quality time together.
