2008 Crossfire Calendar?
2008 Crossfire Calendar?
I'm editing this post, so that you don't have to read the whole thread.
================================================== =====
Current Status:
Submissions are all in.
Ratings are all in.
Winners have been picked!
The calendars are available!
To purchase a calendar go to:
www.cafepress.com/xfirecalendar
There are four calendars available:
The Member's Choice Calendar is made up of the winning photos from the ratings in the gallery.
The other calendars are made up of images that I chose, primarily because of image layout and resolution. I tried not to use the same image twice, and to give a good variety. There weren't too many images that could be used for the large format calendars. So I did the best I could. I hope you enjoy them.
I had trouble making the covers for the calendars. They are not up to the standard that I wanted to have, as I made them myself. I wanted to have a graphics artist friend do them for me, but his schedule did not permit. The ones I posted should do. I like the one for the member's choice calendar. I know Ann will back me up on that.
================================================== =====
Here's the deal:
I want a Crossfire wall calendar for the 2008 year! So I'm putting one together, and I plan to have it printed and share with the forum.
I'm asking everyone to email their personal or meet photos to me. I will post them in the gallery and everyone can rate them. The top 12 (or maybe 14) rated photos will go on the calendar. I will have a friend in the pre-press industry design and layout the calendar - so it should look real nice. Then we will either have them printed or go through CafePress or Zazzle, so whoever wants one can buy one.
What photos do we want?
* Only photos that YOU have the rights to! Don't send copyrighted images.
* HIGH resolution photos! (they're gonna be printed full page)
What is hires? Hires is at least 1,000 pixels in each direction. 2,000 would be better, and 3,000 would be great!
2,300 tall AND 1,800 wide is the real minimum!!
* HIGH quality photos (not ones with people's heads cut off - or worse the car cut off!)
* OBVIOUSLY: the photos must contain a Crossfire
* Picturesque backdrops make for a good calendar
* Close ups are cool
* Various angles are good
* Race or track photos would be sweet
* Don't forget the interior or under the hood!
* Group photos from meets would be great!
How to submit pictures:
* email them as attachments to crossfirecalendar@yahoo.com
* Be sure to include your Name _and_ CrossfireForum username
* Be sure to include written permission for me to edit and reproduce the photos for the purposes of the calendar
How to rate the photos:
* Go to my user gallery (link is above in this post's header - my name, tom2112 is on the left, the link is on the right) and select the Crossfire Calendar Entries album
* Flip through the images and rate them using the radio buttons (blank circles) below the image.
The photos with the combined best rating and number of ratings will win! Weight will be given to photos with more views, since 1 person could rate a photo a 10, and if no one else rated it, it would win, where another might have 100 ratings of 9.5.
What's the schedule?
* I will accept photos until midnight (EST) on January 11th, 2008.
* You can rate the images until midnight (EST) on January 18th, 2008
* I'll announce the winners on Jan 19th, and we'll get the art work started and get the calendars printed a.s.a.p.
* Hopefully you'll have a calendar on your wall by Feb 1st.

Original Post:
I was just thinking that I need a new wall calendar for my office. And I wanted a Crossfire calendar. But, of course, no one seems to make one. So I thought, why don't we make a CrossfireForum.org calendar?
I'm thinking that we could use user's pictures of their cars (or parts of their cars) uploaded to a gallery and then let the users vote on which ones they like best. The top 12 would make the calendar! Then I coerce my pre-press graphics artist friend to make the calendar and we send it to print.
What do you folks think? Do-able? Worth doing? We will probably miss January by the time we vote and lay out and print it.

Re: 2008 Crossfire Calendar?
OK! Sounds like enough people want them.
Next order of business is getting the photos. So I will voluteer to collect them. I have set up an email account just for this purpose.
Of course, we need the HIGHEST resolution images possible, and the best quality shots. So set your digital cameras on hires and go shooting!
Email your Crossfire photos to crossfirecalendar@yahoo.com
Be sure to include:
Your name
Your CrossfireForum.org user ID
AND your permission for the forum to edit and reproduce your photo for the calendar.
DO NOT EMAIL ME COPYRIGHTED PHOTOS! Only photos that YOU or your family have taken!!
After I get at least 12 images, I'll figure out how to make a poll so people can vote on the photos!
Sweet. I love it when a plan comes together.
