Widebody Crossfire...
Re: Widebody Crossfire...
The work you did on that front bumper is certainly nice looking and very impressive. You are obviously a talented designer and fabricator. I'm not into the wide body thing but I will buy that front bumper if you decide to make a few of them. Good luck with your wide body project.

Excellent renderings, I think if you came up with something that wasn't too radical, it very well could become a great way to breath new life into many "totaled" Crossfires. (Considering how many have been lost to salvage yards with only minor damage.)
By radical, I'm talking:
https://www.google.com/search?q=1977...w=1012&bih=585
Something more subtle like a Porsche 944 wide body compared to the less exciting 924 Porsche body style.
I hope this all pans out for you.
One suggestion, consider Fiberglass for the hood. Some of the Carbon Fiber hoods that were built a few years ago are cracking. I've known several people who purchased glass hoods from a reputable dealer many years ago, and have had no such problems.
Good Luck

Re: Widebody Crossfire...
I'm still in the design phase at this point and not really sure how far to go with the design. One thing I can say however is that I intend to work with the factory body lines of the car and accent the cars natural shape rather than hide it or change it. I love the sharp lines of the Crossfire and I don't want to lose that.
Re: Widebody Crossfire...
This is an interesting exercise in design, however any attempt to make more than one kit is fraught with economic dangers.
These cars have crashed in price and attempts to get more money from the young buyers here is going to be a hard job. I have seen lots of people sign up as 'very interested' on other projects then fall by the wayside when it comes to pony up the money. Having people pay a deposit before the kits are done is viewed as iffy as it may just flop.
Getting a group to pay for the development is chancy at best, this has happened here once before, not pretty.

That's the spirit Dave, discourage potential "new" aftermarket body suppliers because Chrysler is doing such a great job keeping body shops supplied with everything we need now.
Re: Widebody Crossfire...
There are better cars to make kits for and these would be cars with ten times the number sold. How many people ponied up for a CF hood? Not many considering the number of people interested on day one.
Cars modified like this are hard to sell as they appeal to a low number of buyers and the money spent would not be recouped even if a buyer could be found.

Re: Widebody Crossfire...
Sorry but I am being a realist, if my car is banged up I will want a fender or whatever from a wreck. Can you imagine the cost of the parts talked about here? One part from the kit would look odd and the cars price would drop even more.

If he can build wide body kits, maybe he'll pick up on the fact that there is an even greater need for "stock" looking body parts. It would be great if through attrition we all would be able to find the required body parts we may need in the future, but I think you and I both know that's highly unlikely. (Besides, who really wants somebody else to lose their "baby" just so their loss can save our cars?)
For years I've been saying we need to find a supplier of fiberglass replacement body parts for our cars, since there seems to be no Korean suppliers who are the slightest bit interested in building something made out of steel for such a small market share. (Trust me, even if they did, you wouldn't want it on your Crossfire.
Unless some manufacturer eventually does, our cars will continue be the "Darling" of the salvage yards. Not so much for the value of their usable body parts, but for their weight in steel and aluminum. It's a vicious cycle, the more cars that get crushed the more expensive it's going to get for the enthusiast to keep them on the road.
Re: Widebody Crossfire...
I'd be in for buying a copy of that front bumper, I was thinking about trying to integrate the older c63 front bumper already because I thought it would be easier, but this looks nice too and if the work was already done for me that would be sweet. Let us know if you just want to make that front bumper. you wouldn't even have to sell the oem grill parts we could source those on our own. I think you would get more bite for just a bumper than an entire wide body kit.
Re: Widebody Crossfire...
I think I would be in for a wide body kit too. Will need to see pics or renderings and get pricing before any kind of commitment. The AMG bumper setup is fantastic by the way. You might have a lot of interest if you made a group buy for that too. Also please post this to the Facebook pages. You'll get a lot of responses there.
Re: Widebody Crossfire...
First of all you should be commended for spending your own time and money to open the door to after market body kits for our Crossfires. I think your front bumper is awesome and well designed. As stated earlier there is little out there to choose from and you have the opportunity to change that. I think it would be a great idea to render 3 possibilities of the front bumper, a new revised hood and the wide body kit. At the end of the day, you'll need the buy in of the masses before proceeding with anything and people like choices. Also, any chance of designing an SRT or AMG specific package? I'm thinking I may have asked too much but you'll have to forgive my ignorance regarding the time and energy that process takes. Anyways, thanks for your effort and I'll keep an eye out on this post.
Re: Widebody Crossfire...
I to like that custom bumper you did, it fits the car great and brings it into the current era of what AMG's etc look like. I wish I had skills for drawing and fabricating, so much money can be made if you know how to do custom stuff for cars since you can charge your own price even if its a one off.
