These LEDs open up giving you a bigger LED area and look modern:

I had looked at those a while back in my LED tail light quest.. Videos of "arms" burnt out weren't real encouraging .. Current reviews continue that. Also.. with a reflector based housing.. I don't see where the "dots" of light will exceed the whole area lit via reflection.

Just my .02 take on them.

Re: NEW LED guide for the cars - March 2015

Oracle LEDs in general are crap products and produce very little light compared to proper CREE or Samsung LEDs. Osram is also another amazing company that provides some of the best lighting technologies on this planet right now. Yeah, I would never put those in my tail lights from Oracle at all. Just junk units

Alright everyone who wanted even more POWERFUL LEDs for the car. The shipment of LEDs has arrived for my buddy, and he's now taking orders for them. This is the site to go to: http://af-lighting.net/
They cost more, but as stupid bright.

BRAKE LIGHTS(NON CANBUS): JDM Astar 2X50W CREE 1157 BAY15D Super Red Turn Signal Brake Tail LED Light Bulb | eBay

REVERSE LIGHTS(CANBUS): https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...ed-tower/1326/

TURN SIGNALS(NON CANBUS): AMBER 7507 21 LED BLINKER TURN SIGNAL BULBS BAU15s | 1 PAIR

LICENSE PLATE LED FIXTURE FULL ASSEMBLY(CANBUS): License Plate LED Light No Error for Mercedes W211 E320 E500 AMG S211 C240 Wagon | eBay

FRONT PARKING LIGHTS(you will need to buy 2 bulbs from this link, CANBUS): Amazon.com: SYLVANIA 168/194/2825 LED Premium White Miniature Bulb, (Pack of 1): Automotive

FRONT SIDEMARKERS(buy these, but in AMBER,2 needed CANBUS): https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...se-tower/1127/

REAR SIDEMARKERS(buy these, but in RED, 2 needed CANBUS): https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...se-tower/1127/

INTERIOR GLOVE BOX: https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...uct/2161/4950/

INTERIOR TRUNK LIGHT: https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...uct/2161/4950/

INTERIOR DOME LIGHTS(you need 2 bulbs, get whichever color you like) https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...edge-base/206/

Final notes: The reverse lights WILL need to have a resistor put on the passenger side wires so they don't glow dimly when off. The car has a very small amount of active current on the wires even when the reverse gear isn't engaged. Keep this in mind. If this makes you feel all tingly and not (wo)manly enough to attempt to put a resistor on, ask here for help.
Not all these LEDs are CANBUS enabled, so the warning light will go off. I prefer not to care about the warning light anymore, as the difference in brightness these LEDs make compared to the halogen bulbs is pretty big and a nice addition to the car. If you really do want to get rid of the warning light out indicator, just attach a resistor to the exterior lights. The SIDE MARKER and FRONT PARKING LIGHTS LEDs are CANBUS enabled however!! Also the lights inside the car are NOT CANBUS controlled, so they won't cause the light out indicator to run.

Adrian,

First, thanks for posting this, it’s super helpful. A couple of questions:

1) What’s the difference between the Front Sidemarker lights and the Interior dome light?
2) You recommend the red rear sidemarkers and amber front sidemarkers---why, do you have the European clear side markers?
3) Can you provide a link or recommendation for the 5W resistor?

Thanks,
Lee

Re: NEW LED guide for the cars - March 2015

The amber and red LEDs behind each amber and red lens gives you the best light output and color. Otherwise if you toss in a white LED behind an amber lens it becomes yellow, and the red lens with white LED combo gives you pink. The resistors you can pick up from amazon for very cheap, they splice in line directly.

WHAT RESISTOR AND WHERE DOES IT GO FOR REVERSE LIGHTS? Thanks

I tried those bulbs and too much light is spread around at 360 deg., I used these bulbs and they are better, all the light is pointing down.
The interior trunk light can be replaced by the new LED license plate light. I added another in the trunk and added one each side in the foot well.
Brilliant, even if I do say myself.;)
SHOWTIME !!!!!

Just buy any resistor from amazon or ebay that's roughly 5watts in dissipating power, there is no specific one you need to buy. You splice into the wires for the reverse on the passenger side and it'll be enough to cancel out the ghost glow.

Here's 10 of them, so you don't run out. Get some Tsplice as well.

Gonna assume you're trying to tell him to use those for the license plate lights, otherwise those will not fit in the 1156 type socket for the reverse lights.

Did some testing. No glow without resistors. 05 limited

Re: NEW LED guide for the cars - March 2015

Odd, maybe it's an issue only with the 2004 model? Mine had ghost glow still for the reverse lights even using CREE type LED chips on the bulb which draw a bit more than normal 5050 SMD chips.

Re: NEW LED guide for the cars - March 2015

I installed some of these 194 LED's for the interior bulbs. Insanely bright bulbs! I was going to put some LED's in the footwells, now there's no need to with these puppies. I'm thinking of trying them for the eyelids too. Says error free but with this caveat,

PLEASE NOTE: Error free capability may not be compatible to some Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Re: NEW LED guide for the cars - March 2015

Those will most likely burn out from excessive heat due to all the diodes on that small space that isn't cooled properly. Don't expect too much from that type of design in terms of lifespan, though they might be bright compared to a w5w bulb.

Maybe so but they do come with a two year warranty. What's a w5w bulb? A regular
halogen 194?

I also put some of these Sylvania Zevo LED's for the backup lamps.
Very bright bulbs with a heavy heatsink.

The OSRAM/Sylvania are awesome in general, those shouldn't give you hassle. Btw do you have any ghost glow with the reverse now? And yes w5w are t10/194/168 bulbs.

Re: NEW LED guide for the cars - March 2015

I haven't noticed a glow on the Zevos'. I did strap a 6 ohm 25 watt resistor across them though for the Can Bus. I'm probably just going to disable it. Too much of a PITA
Walmart has some good prices on the Zevo bulbs right now.
The 194/168/2825 Zevo bulbs are 4.29 each
zevo - Walmart.com
The 1157R are 14 bucks a pair.
6418 for the glove box is 5.37

Re: NEW LED guide for the cars - March 2015

Yes, I know well how these little suckers work. OSRAM has built them from the ground up, along with Philips in order to maintain the same level of the incandescent bulb light source in reference to the reflector housings. It works really well so far. Though not quite as bright as the one's I've been using because they don't have as many CREE chips on them yet. Though I keep looking at them to see when they surpass mine, because I will jump on them too then.

Is there a difference between these bulbs 2 x Car 1156 BA15S 26 SMD White LED Canbus No Error Backup Reverse Light Bulbs | eBay and the ones listed in the first post, besides price?
