So much for a mid Feb start. Maybe mid March. Still no solid feedback from ViS on the hoods or diffusers with 70 people interested?

 

From the looks of it. The original hood donor dropped out "lost his contact info". Thought I saw something about another guy wanting in, but didn't see any updates after that.

But hey, for zero dollars invested, what's the real loss if it takes longer, or doesn't happen at all?

 

Weight is an enemy of speed. Getting rid of unsprung weight is better than sprung weight (that sounds awkward).

I may be interested in a cf hood provided good quality with good price. Have to see it first.

 

I am trying everything to make this happen as fast as possible.

So for the ones still cheering me on,

1st donor car Walter have always been with me, and been over at ViS talking to Fred.
2nd donor car Steve (w DCAI) is the one I lost contact details to, got it so we are ready when ViS wants us to.

Status: ViS boss is coming home from asia trip in mid-february, at least what I was told and will when coming back prioritize us. Everything is at halt until he returns. But we are ready.

 

As to the weight saved; what's important is where the lbs. are removed. The higher up and farther forward on the heavy end the greater the benefit. it's not enough to make a car noticeable faster in a straight line but it should be noticeable in the braking and curves.

I found a local fellow that makes copies of hoods cheaply. If this falls through for whatever reason, I'll have him make a flimsy cheap-o hood for me and be happy to cut the vents where I want them to be.

just called Fred at ViS and got the following information.

There are three projects put to the table right now and we are top of the list with our hoods and diffusors, thereafter is a ford focus hood.

Fred has not got authority to initiate the process himself, but as said, as soon as the boss comes back from Asia they will be ready to go.

It was a real good call and I am looking forward on this happening.

 

No guff here man. Just telling it like it is, nothing invested, nothing lost. Still vying for this project to reach completion.

The diffusors will be done prior to the hoods. (at least what I was told yesterday.)

I stated hood pins recommended but not required. When using a lighter material it's just a fact it's structural support will be reduced especially if you are driving over 150 mph daily. Good luck making this happen guys.

It's not easy, especially when it's not free. Looking at a finished product everyday is amazing.

I have not been on the forum much lately, but I am assuming this project is yet another dead in the water.

 

Still ViS that need to get their thumbs out. Got email yday saying they are working on it. That is the diffusors first. I replied this time that if they do not give me an answer of when they can do it now I will do it with a competitor I have been discussing with.

That said, it is not my firm, I cannot force them to do this. I would like to have had my hood for 1 yr ago.

I hear ya Fubu .. Kinda like when I hit the corvette forum.. guy was all up in the " I can do it".. emailed a few times then poof. We can only try is the way I see it. It's not like it's a product with a potential of 10 thousand sales..

 

Phil, I think if we are having this much difficulty with such a small part as the diffusors where there is already a mold and it would be pretty easy, it makes me very nervous about engineering a hood. I have no dog in the hood fight, but that does make me apprehensive.

If you have other contacts, it may not be a bad idea to reach out to them. I know everyone acts like they are doing us a favor by creating a part for the car, but these are all businesses and would not create the part if they did not think they could make some money

 

It is their firm with potential customers waiting. Let's assume they are in business to make money. If they build it, customers will come. All they've got to say is they are not going to make the products so everyone can move on and you find a new vendor.

 

Yea, Phil don't take any of my comments to be against you. You have done us a service by trying to put this together. I just can't believe how you have basically gift wrapped this for ViS and they seem to have basically ignored it. Most places would love to be handed business like that.

 

i just want to say THANKS to fubu for all his work on both projects.
i am not in on the hood but am on the diffusors.

 

Also a Thanks to FUBU. I had a VIS hood for my 2004 SE-R (god that was a long time ago) and they made a damn fine hood at the time. That being said I as well would like to get one of these especially if it ends up on the lower side of the price spectrum.
