Default Issue with HID kit

A few months ago I purchased a eBay HID kit for my 04 coupe from a vendor recommended by one of the members here on the forum. I installed them and everything seemed to work great.

However, now I'm having a pretty annoying issue. The lights fire up just fine when I first turn on the car and turn the switch. They will continue to stay on as they should for the duration of my drive (sometimes hours at a time). The problem comes in when I shut off the car (turn off the lights). Say I drive an hour and then stop for 15 minutes and get back in...the headlights will now flash up and then go out completely. First I noticed this happening with just the passenger side, and now it is both sides. I thought maybe the ballasts were getting hot so I wrapped them in heat resistant tape but this didn't do anything at all. Hoping maybe someone has seen this before and has a solution?

Cheers,

you check the connections and make sure a wire is not loose?

Yea it seems the wires are tight, I mean I don't understand why they'd fire cold but not hot if a wire was loose. Wouldn't the problem be all the time?

They both don't come back on?
Hard to believe its the ballast since they would both have to be failing.
Only common thing I can think of is the power source.

Put HIDs in my truck and now they "wink" randomly.
Gonna put the stock bulbs in and forget it!

I agree it would be strange for both ballasts to fail at the same time. But I just don't see how it'd work if started when the engine is cold, and even as it heats up the lights stay on. But heaven forbid you turn them off they will not come back on. The flash up like theyre gonna fire but then stop within a half second. It is quite strange.

Sounds like overheated/heat damaged ballasts to me. They should replace them without question.

But you'll have to send them in first. Stinks, I know.

I wouldn't really mind sending it back, but ebay member HIDGATE that I purchased the kit from doesn't have any items for sale anymore. I'm thinking he went out of business.

Your first post said it started with the passenger side and later the driver side. So they did not fail at the same time.
My OEM low beam bulbs lasted for 20,000 miles of being on all the time (DTRL's) and failed within a week of each other, so this kind of thing happens.

Intermittent failure though? Only when hot? I've decided this kit is a lost cause and will likely order a new kit from DDM perhaps.
