Default N/A OEM Rims, Stripe on spokes?

I've seen some pictures of guys that have painted the groove in the center of the spoke on the N/A OEM (7 spoke) rims black, while leaving the rims silver.

Such as in this picture: Clicky Clicky

I like the idea, but I want to get my rims powdercoated black...

My first question is,

Would a shop be able to powdercoat my rims black, while also powdercoating the groove a dark charcoal gray? (Probably in two different steps, i'm not super familiar with the process so I don't really know)

The second question is,

Does anyone think this would look weird? (I drive an '05 Black N/A)

After much debating in my own brain, i've tentatively decided to get my door handles, fender strakes, front splitter (when I get it), and some other misc. parts and pieces painted a dark charcoal grey. I am definitely going to get my rims powdercoated black, but I think adding color down low would be nice. (considering caliper paint, but with the 7 spoke design you don't really see the calipers all that much anyway)

Also not sure on whether to go matte or gloss....

Anyway, aside from the first question this is all a matter of opinion, so i'm interested to hear all of yours.

Thanks,
Eric Henderson

Of the cars I have seen with stripes on the wheels like those, they are usually tape pin stripe.

Hmm,

Didn't really think about that but it's a good idea.

For a test at the very least...

What kind of tape could I use? I found some kind of tape that I used on my grill to make it black from Pep Boys...but i'm not sure if they have a dark charcoal gray.

Any idea on where to find said tape?

Thanks,
Eric Henderson

I would think you could find about any color 1/4" pin stripe somewhere on the web. Your local body shop may have it in bulk and you can get enough for one wheel cheap for a test. I know Autozone, PepBoys, etc. have most common colors in 1/4".

Awesome, thank you!

I'll have to go check those places.

Much appreciated.

One search on eBay got me many hits.

Try this: 1/4" X 150' DARK GREY Single Pin Stripe Striping Tape | eBay

then do a search for pin stripe 1/4

Charcoal: http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_...506.m270.l1313

Sounds awesome!

Do you have pics?

Was it difficult?

The paint is from dupli-color made for wheels they sponsored me. You get the main color then shoot them with their clear.

I did my oem like this too. Trimbrite 1/4" pinstripe and holds like glue.

I did it last year with regular old chrome pin striping. Surprisingly it lasted really good.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

They all look great, exactly what i'm talking about.

But i'm having a hard time picturing it on a black wheel.

Has anyone done the pinstriping on a powdercoated/painted rim?

Thanks everyone,
Eric
