Vented Carbon Fiber Hood Design Status
Re: Vented Carbon Fiber Hood Design Status
your standard aftermarket carbon fiber hood is a fiberglass skeleton. the skin is a fiberglass core that has a skin of over. a 100% carbon would be very expensive, minimum 2500 or so, due to the honeycomb core, kevlar and carbon, not to mention the fact that an autoclave has to be used to vacuumbag the piece. molds for this purpose are expensive and the whole process is very time consuming.
you can bet on this hood being built like the garden variety wet layup hood.

Well I have seen both fail but thats mostly at the standing mile speed comps.
I can tell you this, the materials to build a dry carbon splitter for an evo 9 were a bit over 1200 and thats not including the labor to build it. of course the whole thing weighed 9lbs

Lets not discredit any efforts before I have the chance to verify the products quality. I’ve owned full 100% carbon fiber, 75% carbon fiber-25% fiber glass, and 100 % fiberglass. I’ve never had any issues, and my friends have never had any issues with hoods coming apart unless the hood was not secured properly. I do agree, the fit must be perfect otherwise I’m not paying another dime. BTW . I'm already out to much money anyway!
So
On another note!!!

All you guys bitching about this and that, go make your own hood and put out the ridiculous money associated with that, for the rest of us, we will wait patiently and see what Mad comes up with

Re: Vented Carbon Fiber Hood Design Status
The final product will be a 2 layers fiberglass - 1 layer carbon fiber design. This is the same set up that is used on all carbon fiber hoods that don’t cost over 2K. These hoods are definitely lighter and stronger then the average fiberglass hood due to having less fiberglass layers. The durability of the hood is enhanced and the reliability is increased by the strength and none pore’s finish that the carbon fiber layer provides over a 5 layer fiberglass hood. I can say from 1st hand experience, fiberglass hoods are nice, nevertheless, the reliability and over all improvement that a carbon fiber designed / finished hood provides is above all when talking about aftermarket automobile body parts.
I was given April 26th as a completion date.

That's because you're scouring the site for SRT Rims before I can get to them
I'm hoping he has this done and can join us for our run on the 14th.
