Vented Carbon Fiber Hood Design Status
Re: Vented Carbon Fiber Hood Design Status
I will be up for whichever hood comes out. You are spending so much time, money, and resources to do this and unfortunately you cant make everyone happy. I like the lines in the hood but at the same time I do not. The Town & Country and the Sebring have the same damn hood.

I will be on travel till the end of the week! I will have limited internet access due to the nature of my job.
I'll try to provide updates through my I-phone when allowed to access it.
FYI
The design team is on a roll now. I was told this is the fun part for them...To create something new. These guys have been on it hard every since there break.

They could. But just like anything... It will take time and money to make a stock and aftermarket carbon fiber design. Besides the hood I'm getting from them, in order to make any design effort worth while, we are looking at a Minimum Order Quantity of 20 units. Anything over 20 units will drive the over all cost down significantly. So if there were 20 people looking to get a stock hood... I would say good idea. If not, it’s going to cost you. I personally would not pay for a hood I already have, but you never know. My plan is to keep my stock hood on stand by, while I enjoy the new profile this design will bring to my car

OMG.... that is totally bad-***. The design team hit a home run with this one. The cowl is awesome, and the vents resemble the jag vents. I was following this thread out of curiosity from the beginning. Now..... my interest is piqued to the point of.... I gotta have one of these! I am looking forward to the final product and sales information. Thanks for the update.

Looking good. I didn't realize till the second to the last picture that you were having them make it with a cowl induction. Some of you smarter guys can answer this, but I would presume it is for aesthetic purposes only as most people will be running with a CAI to the front of the car.
Looks sharp nonetheless...you going to have this ready for our meet on the 17th?

I should be test fitting this bad boy in a couple weeks with photos, weight analysis, hood latch and hood prop checks, and a look at product quality . After that, if all go's well.... my plan will be to run Bulk Buy.

Can you also weigh this hood and the factory one so we know the difference.
Also, close up shots of fit and finish would be nice. I didnt think id ever be interested in an aftermarket hood but it looks like you have a good thing going here. However i am very picky about body lines and gaps being even so if its not gonna fit like factory that would put me out.
Thanks and keep up the great work!
Re: Vented Carbon Fiber Hood Design Status
alot of standard wet layup cf wont survive high speeds.
this type of hood is just fiberglass with a layer of carbon over it for looks pretty much. The pressure differential at those speeds would cause this thing to turn to splinters, unless its over built which means you get no weight savings over stock.

What normally fails is the glue bonding the hood skin to the frame, then the hood becomes a kite or it shatters coming off the frame.
I guess I just have a different train of thought than most. I want to make my car light and fast, not just look good, lol.

Re: Vented Carbon Fiber Hood Design Status
All I know is that, while I agree that it must be able to withstand high speeds...
I am not intereted in a hood with vents that just has a layer of cf over fiberglass. if the whole piece is not cf, my interest drops dramatically..
still can't wait to see the final result. thanks to max_med for all his work on this.
