Back in my Ranger days, we simply used red bulbs and hit 'em with a light coat of silver metallic paint. The light comes right through if the coat is thin enough...

I used red 194 bulbs in the interior of my Ranger's cabin... they lasted forever.

As cheap as the bulbs are, it's an inexpensive experiment.

Very very good point... this could be interesting. a quick experiement with different types of paint on the bulbs too...but then again that could get expensive...

whoever tries this, don't forget to tape off the bottom of the bulb...I'd hate to see the bulb come out beautifully and then not be able to use the bulb because of silver paint covering the connectors... hahaha..

cause lord knows that's what i would do in my rush to get it done haha.

Good idea. I already have a can of Rust-Oleum metallic brilliant metal finish spray paint.

What we used to do was simply poke the bottom connector tip through a box or an old egg carton; the cardboard will hold the bulb perfectly upright and hide the contacts. Bulb is silver, contacts stay metal.

Inferno, that paint should be perfect. Clean the bulb with alcohol first, let dry, and let her rip!

When I first put in my rear clear markers, I couldn't find red 168 or 194s. So I lightly coated a pair of clear ones with spray red high temp paint. After about an hour with them turned on at night, they began to smoke and burn. Took 'em out right away. Silver paint may be different. Those little bulbs get extremely hot after being on for just a short time, especially in a small confined area such as a marker housing.

Definitely test them first, before you put them back in the housing.

When I used them on the Ranger, there was a lot more room in the housing. I also used high-temp paint...

I went a got a set of these today to try them out.... they work fine..... ....but give a light out indicator

I also got some red 194 bulbs to try painting with silver or chrome paint to see if they will work.... I still need to pick up a can of high temp paint and spray them...
