Default Painted Calipers

I am thinking about painting the calipers. What colors would you go for on the SSB.......

Red
Blue
Yellow......I just ordered yellow Lamin-x fog light covers to go with the 6K Hid blues.

I saw some purple calipers on a dark blue car the other night, really looked nice, really!
I shot mine with Rustoleum Hammered Metallic gray. Lasts a year then they have to be cleaned up and re shot. Seems to wear fine.

Anyone have step by step instruction on removing the calipers? Everyone tells me it's easy, and while I've done my share of drum brakes, I've never tried the disc brakes.

remove? Just get a brush on caliper paint kit and paint then while they're on the car. it's beyond simple. take wheel off, tape off some areas, take brush and paint it on!

Brush on paint is good if you use the two part-epoxy type of caliper paint and take your time.

But for a really solid paint job, I removed the calipers, cleaned, sanded and masked them. Then painted with High Heat Cermaic paint (up to 1,200*) - but I also was installing Steel-braided brake lines and new fluid at the same time so it made sense to remove them.

You definitely need to clean them and sand any rust spots. I just taped everything off and sprayed them on the car, no need to remove them. The paint I used is not high temp but it has held up well over a years time.

try the g2 products. its a 2 part epoxy that will do all 4 calipers. around 37$ shipped
heres the link for the caliper removal. its very detailed. the website also shows the rear removal SLK32 Brakes

i used the red on mine but g2 has a wide color selection
http://www.caliperpaints.com/
i did the same as brianbrave new pads lines fluid so it was easy to do it while removed. CAUTION! the clipers are side specific. if you mix the carriers you can reverse them but never get them to bleed. bleeder on top ensures proper side fitment. i know this cause i did it!! once you mix the paint you have a limited time to use it . once it hardens its scrap

Ive always had good luck by painting them while on. First clean them good with brake cleaner. apply bbq black hi temp paint as a primer. Then apply hi heat engine paint over the primer. To apply the spray paint, spray it into the cap or a cup until you have enough to brush on. small foam brushes and q-tips will get it all. I only do the parts of the caliper that show.

FP - I did mine myself on the car. Jacked it up, pulled the tires, cleaned it, taped it off, scrubbed the back to the wheels to get them clean, put the tire back on ..... rinse & repeat 3 times.

I think it took me about 1.5 hrs to do the whole car. I got caliper paint at the local auto parts store. They had lots of colors, but what other choice did I really have but red on a yellow car??

If I can do it .... you can do it!!

I ordered the green caliper paint kit through eastwood.com. Only $20 plus shipping.
I post some pics when I get it complete.

It is very easy. Jack it up, remove wheel, turn wheel out so you can see better and remove to big bolt that bolt the caliper to the front spinde. Before you remove the caliper, take a big flat blase screw driver and push the pads back which pushes the piston back into the caliper, this makes putting them back on very easy. If you want them all the way off you will also have to remove the brake line and unplug the wear sensor.
