Just a quick update for you guys, I haven't forgotten/given up on this project. I finally have found a shop willing to take on the project and they seem like they know what they are doing. I am currently waiting on a reply to an email I just sent out on pricing before I get this project started. Also if anyone would like to split this project with me or be a financial backer or whatever please let me know . Hopefully I will have some good news to post tomorrow.

Just in case anyone is interested, the original hood only weighs in at about 45lbs.
This includes the insulation, which probably doesn't weigh more than a pound or two.

There was somebody on this forum who removed the insualtion under the hood - any idea how much that weighs?
This same person also never got back with us as to any detrimental affects like paint discoloration due to heat etc. etc.

The base models don't have any hood insulation, I've got 40,000 miles on mine and no evidence of paint fade or effects from the heat. I think a reduction of engine noise may be the biggest benefit of the insulation. I never had it so I really have no idea what it might weigh, but I can't believe it would be too much

i wonder why they wouldnt put the insulation on the base model? is it really that much more money?!?! and bobo how much money are we talking about for a financial backer? and it all depends on what your plans are for the hood! if it has the sl55 hood strakes then depending on the amount i can help out

RickZ,
Do you still have the stock air box?
I'm sure that soaks up some heat and stops it getting to the hood.
It may not weigh that much, but it's weight off the front end which is where you need to remove it.

I think if you just want to let hot air out you should just remove the rubber gasket at the back of the hood this lets hot air out fast and is FREEE mod. As for the CF hood with a weight savings of only 20 lbs maybe I'd put in a smaller battery first it can save 30 lbs for a lot less $$.

Yes mine is pretty much all stock and you are probably right the factory engine cover would be a buffer as opposed to guys running CAI's with no cover.
And SRT6 Dan you are right removing the gasket would get some air flowing under there, I remember back in the "old days" guys would adjust there hood hinges up as far as possible to create a homemade cowl induction

Doesn't removing the rubber insulation let water in (Rain) while letting heat radiate out??

well i think if they are talking about the rubber insulation on the back of the hood im sure the engine will be ok if a little water hits it. i like how your crossfire is sitting right next to a 115000 dollar quadraporte

Wasn't worried about the motor with the cover, but electrical connections I am.

On an aside about the pic, I figured that my car belonged there. In between Quadratec's owner (Maserati) and director of marketing (Blue M5)

First off, Uncle O thank you very much for that photoshop, I wish I had the patience to use photoshop but I do not.

Second, Voyager you have a PM.

Third, SVO I thought I was crazy for thinking about putting a viper hood on the crossfire but I honestly had that thought too for a good while except it would end up being a really really expensive one of, or a bad attempt at a fiberglass job by me. But yes I really do like the look of it, but it just wasn't practical for me to pursue.

Fourth, No new updates just yet, race season is bogging shops down.

NP! anytime! i did not send but a min or so on it. if needed i will spend more time on one. just ask.

also was think with so many people adding the SL intakes on the SRT, would it be possible to use a vent system like the jags and astons to port into the intake boxes...not sure if you could bring in enough air like that. but i also like the looks of them and might look good running along the lines of our hoods. i will try to drop them on a pic in a few to let everyone see...
