high idle after intake manis reinstalled???
high idle after intake manis reinstalled???
I had a boost sensor added to my manifold and reinstalled mani gaskets because I have been suspecting a leak from iradic low rpm idle. It will stay at about 500-600 but then die down and the dash lights dim before jumping back up to normal idle RPM while sitting still at a light.
This time I installed the cork mani gaskets I sprayed them with copper gasket sealer and installed the mani bolts with locktite and torqued them to 10ft/lbs using center out technique. I have had these off before and did the cork gaskets without problems.
Now after the manis are reinstalled the idle is at 2,000 and jumps down and then back up. Reving it doesn't lower it and I have done a throttle reset twice.
Any other ideas or things I should try?

Re: high idle after intake manis reinstalled???
I couldn't locate a leak but I did see that the gasket is squished out more than the first cork gasket I did. I think the copper spray not being fully dry squirted it out. Bummer. I just ordered two new sets from Rob via express, now christmas holiday to wait.
Now I need a code reader, can one of you guys point me in the right direction? I already have an OBDII cable if that helps.

I'm late to the party and you already know you have a leak. As a victim of past leaks I can tell you that I've never had an idle that high so you must have a whopper. For a slight leak the idle is a little high and won't settle quickly. I managed to pinch a metal one once.

Thanks for chimming in guys, and I know you have lots of gaskets installed Les. I am picking up OEM intake mani gaskets at mercedes tomorrow, will spray with copper. I ordered 2 sets of cork from Rob.
I know that Anthony favors oem and I guess you do too doc, but Steve and Les favor cork. right?
I also stripped the head of one of the mani bolts when torquing and let the wrench slip. Any ideas of a similar bolt that will work for a few days like from home depot or lowes until the replacements show up from Rob?

Re: high idle after intake manis reinstalled???
If you can find a similar size bolt, it will work ok, the torque is relative low in the scheme of things. Should be OK.
For what it is worth, I hate cork gasket material, squishes out all together too easily. Neoprene / cork works ok and is a bit more stable. I also do copper coat on all gaskets with success to date. Composition material works for me but it has little squish capability and can be only used in parallel surface applications that dont need a lot of CAULKING to fill them.
Happy holiday, Wdy

2 options on the bolt. Take a hack saw and make a slot for a regular screwdriver. File the sides square so you can use a socket. Temp. solutions only.
I have a love hate relationship with the cork gaskets. They seem to seal better when they're installed perfectly. What's perfect took a whole lot of sets of gaskets and headaches. The stock gaskets with the copper spray seem to be the way for ease, instal and forget.
