Default Code P2098

Mom was driving the crossy while I was in California and the check engine light came on. I was like "great, it's probably the P0410 code everyone gets"
I took it to AutoZone today to have it scanned and it was P2098.

P2098
Definition: Downstream fuel trim system 2 lean
Explanation: the ECM has detected a fault with the downstream o2 sensor
Probable Cause: 1. check other codes first
2. exhaust leak near o2 sensor
3. failed o2 sensor
4. fuel contamination

We both agreed the cheapest and first thing that should be done was to run the car to 1/4 tank and fill it back up.
Mom filled it up with BP premium, which shouldn't be the problem. I ran it to 1/4 and then filled it up with 93 at my usual gas station.
Of course the check engine light went off on my way to autozone but luckily it still read the codes. I'm going to wait a couple more tanks and then have it scanned again. If it is the same code I will have the o2 sensor replaced, about $70 for the whole part.

Anyone else ever have this code?

I just checked my car out after bringing it in for a o2 sensor aka p2096.
I scanned my car with my scanner and I found out that a p2098 code is in the computer.
my CEL hasn't gone off but I see the code for p2098.

I am wondering if it's another o2 sensor as I understand their are two of them. Will replacing that one get rid of the code?

The car runs fine and I dont see a CEL.

Especially since I have a warranty in place that covers the o2 sensors.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks in advance.

I just had that same problem and it was driving me crazy. The Crossfire has 4 oxygen sensors. 2 pre-CATS & 2 post CATS. It turned out to be a crack in the CAT converter. It split at the weld point. The emission parts (CAT included) are covered by warranty for 8 yrs 80,000 miles. Chrysler replaced mine for free and I picked my car today. Runs GREAT and no check engine light.

I didn't ask about the O2 sensor. If I had to geuss I would probably say no. But it never hurts to give it a try. The worst they can say is no. You can find the O2 sensors on ebay for around $70 & up each.

I had all of my sensors replaced under the p2098 and p2096 code but my car is still pulling a p2098 code...

The dealer replaced them under my warranty. The dealer claims that it maybe an electrical problem but who knows what that can mean. Anyone have any ideas what it can mean...

I replaced a crankshaft sensor, electronic control module and secondary air pump about 6 months ago.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

p2098 repair - remove maf sensor housing, clean and die electric silicon grease the gasket under it, clean maf, reassemble, put 1/4 inch screw under housing clip to hold housing tight against intake pipe. No vacuum leak, no p2098. Took me awhile to figure this out. Good luck, Double R

Double R, while the information may be helpful to someone, you are replying to a thread that is over 2 years old. The issue has probably been resolved.

Also caused by 10% ethanol fuel. Use non ethanol premium and chevron techron, (Mercedes fuel system cleaner $40 cheaper) to clean cats. Manual says fuels containing ethanol may cause check engine light to come on. No ethanol in Germany. Don't use anything containing MMT either, will damage engine. RR
