Default Crankshaft Position Sensor or Camshaft Position Sensor

Looking to get ahead of a possible issue with my new to me 2004 DD 60k XF. I will be driving it back and forth to work Mon-Fri and it is a 70 mile round trip.

I have read reference to both a "Crankshaft Position Sensor" and a "Camshaft Position Sensor".

Are these 2 separate parts, or are they the same part that has been given 2 different names?

I don't want to be stuck on the side of I-5 with the no start issue. "Prevention is worth a pound of cure".

Thanks, Jared

Two different parts, one is on the front of the engine and one is on the rear, that would be the crankshaft position sensor.

I suggest doing a search on this sight so you are familiar with the locations and proper tools, process etc. for replacing them.

AND, buy ONLY BOSCH parts for these two sensors. You'll see why when you do the research here. Remember, check carefully, vendors confuse with terms like direct replacement for your BOSCH part! Welcome, and enjoy your car!

Thanks guys, I found it.

Looks simple. 1 6mm six point socket, 1 connector, pull the sensor out. Installation is same process reversed I imagine.

I'll get one ordered.

Are cam position sensors failure prone as well?

both sensors fail and cause issues, crankshaft sensors are far more common though

No, quite rare but get both just in case. Same tools required.

Crank position sensor was cheap, Bosch for $26 with Prime. Ordered it.

Anyone got the Cam position part number handy?

Thanks, Jared

I'm guessing that the part number on the box is the one I need? Neither of the links contain the camshaft position sensor part number.

Thanks, Jared

You would be correct with that guess. I believe there is at least one other part with a different number that would work. This is the most common part though.

I am very confused after a couple of hours and too many sights on the internet.
I am trying to determine which is the camshaft position sensor and which is the crankshaft position. I have seen both of these as the other piece on the internet. Onehundred80 has a very nice pdf file that identifies how to change the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Is there a PDF file or picture of where the Camshaft Position sensor is and how to change it? Is the camshaft position sensor on the passenger side toward the front of the engine? The correct Bosch number for a 2005 Crossfire convertible for each part would be very helpful. I want to change both sensors as the car runs rough and stalls and then starts up later and runs normal.

The crankshaft position sensor is on the front of the engine and the camshaft position sensor is in the rear.

No it isn't.

Crank sensor is on the block in the rear.
Cam sensor is on the right head on the front.
