Default Axles, driveshaft / the difference limited to srt

Axles,
2004 had a two piece axle, one piece fit into the diff and was held in with a "C" clip. the other 1/2 went to the wheel hub.,, to remove that axle stub you need to remove the rear cover, remove the C clip, if you want to use the ONE piece axel you need to change the axle seal and now just push the axle into the diff. the diff is the same on all crossfires (just not the gears and the yoke) the axles are the same left to right, (they interchange).
Yokes
that is the three leg yoke one on your transmission and one on the diff where you mount the driveshaft . the base and limited uses a smaller yokes, and only the srt uses the larger yoke, to swap them out you also need to change the seals as they are different also
Driveshaft
even though both(limited & srt) driveshaft are the same length the yoke size are different the srt uses a larger yoke. the srt form center bolt hole to bolt hole is 3 3/4" where as the limited is 3 1/2"
Wave-trac
the wave-trac fits both limited & srt, the slk320 & slk32. with the wavetrac you must use the one piece axle

if i left out anything post it or pm me and i will add it. jim

If the pinion nut is removed, to chage the 3 arm prop.
the crush washer must be changed also.

not always 99 out of 100 you can re-torque the nut adding 2 to 4 ft lbs to add to the crush , 144ft lbs will add about .03 to the crush washer and checking how smooth it turns as you torque it.and of course clay the ring to pinion before you remove the yoke and after you re-torque it.
I did my first 3.27 by re-torquing and adding 2ft lbs and ran it for 2 1/2 years,, My 3.46 that i just got back from unatrx (got a new wavetrac in it) I had re-torqued it in 2016 and ran it for over a year, it too is fine. these mercedes differentials are not hard to work on as a chevy ,. and yes it this was a chevy and you re-torque the pinion within 6 months it would fail. I know i have worked on hunderds of chevys . jim

Note: if you are r-e-a-l quiet and go slow when passing a JUNK yard ,,you can here the chevys rust

My Chevy Tahoe is rusting as I watch. Still having fun in my Blue coupe. The 3:46 is still hanging in there. I wish I had the weather and time to play, but not much going on with the cars right now.
