Check engine
Check engine
Hi , my car was having trouble with the ignition, taking Too much to start and if i turned the key half-way si that only the battery was on and let it charge for a few minutes it started inmediately other than that the car was fine, the engine worked like a champ. I took it to a mechanic and he tested the engine and it was "loosing presure" and told me the fuel pump was the problem. I bough one from autozone(im thinking this might be part of the problem) they replaced the old one and when i picked it up the engine started with no problem but when i drove it when i accelerated the engine stalled and took a few minutes to respond, it always happened when i hit the brakes for a stop and then pushed the gas Also the check engine light popped up, took it again to the mechanic and told me it was my fuel filter, changed it and the problem is still there.
Can it be that the New fuel pump be faulty ? Or can it be the MAF? Or the mechanic messed up something??? Any thoughts on what should i be looking for be greatly apreciated since im not very good at mechanic stuff

[QUOTE=amx1397;865575]Maybe the pump wasn't bad,, but the filter/regulator (is clogged or not regulating the filter and regulator are in one,, in other words you have two items in line from the tank to the engine one is the fuel pump the other is the fuelfilterregulator jim[/QUOTE
I changed the filter with a new one and the problem is still there, a problem that the car didnt have until they changed the fuel pump

Re: Check engine
I assume you replaced the reg/filter with a like idem,,,
anyway try this
after the car has sat overnight or all day , remove the gas cap, with your ear next to the filler tube ,,,have some one turn the key on,, if the fuel pump runs more than 5 to 10 seconds you have leak down.
this could be the filter/reg or the pump (( or the injectors)) .
when i installed my V8 I removed the filter/regulator,, I have a manual regulator,, and i have to turn my key on for about 5 seconds then start and it starts right away other it will do as you describe ,, I know i have leak down,, i built it that way, you should have 60 to 65 psi on your fuel system even to the next morning after you shut off the engine,, that is why the car starts right away,, hope this helps. jim

Just a thought, could it be that whoever changed the fuel pump did not hook the fuel lines up correctly? Is that possible? I know the fuel filter has four lines.

Re: Check engine
hi! The fuel pump relay is known to be good, my best guess is that the New fuel pump is a defective one,or the mechanics didnt install it right as the serious problems presented after they changed the fuel pump, but i dont know anything about motors and the mechanics say they arent reading any pressure loss , so im thinking about getting a second opinion, Also as ive said maybe the problem id that the new fuel pump is from autozone
