Unhappy cost for replacement of Left side value cover and gasket

what is a fair price for the replacement of L side valve cover gasket on 2006 Crossfire? Having an oil leak, dealer says its the cover/gasket

It is most likely your breather cover just above the valve cover. This is a common problem from time to time. Do a search on the Forum and do it yourself, if you can. No gasket, just clean it up and reseal with silicone seal. Total cost, a tube of silicone you can use again.

If you have a pound of effort and an ounce of ability, you can save a BUTTTLOAD of your hard earned cash if you take the multitude of tutorials on the forum and do it yourself. Best advice, careful on 'retightening' the bolts (they are SOFT metal), and make sure the covers are completely clean BEFORE you apply the gasket material before remounting (making sure the curing time is observed of course).

If you have a lot of money and no time on your hands to do it yourself, take it (OMG am I saying this) to a dealer service department.

May the Gods of the XF forgive my momentary slip. I did say the required disclaimer though...

I, for one, shall never forgive you.
Consider yourself totally shunned from this moment on.
( Hows the recovery coming ? Hope all is well now. )

Recovery coming along, still have no diagnosis as to why the symptoms keep 'coming and going'. Good news is they are happening less and less as the weeks go by. I don't know, like Max posted, maybe its just old age creeping in? Am concerned less and less so I guess that's a great thing...

MUCH appreciate all the good vibes and comments posted that's for sure!
