The oem is still at your 68MM opening.. so defeats the idea for the most part if you don't at a wide open throttle.

If your just working on a limited funds upgrade.. add the TB.. trim the vanes out of the elbow.. add new gasket and reassemble.. the Maf housing can be done later with minimum work.

Get that 74mm on there and you'll notice the difference! Kinda like you though.. those twin 3" pipes under the hood give her that "take notice" when accelerating now..

You don't use Torque Pro by chance do you? Odd thing about my setup.. I bought a Honda accord intake to see if it would fit.. single pipe and filter.. while running it on the drivers side and oem hooked up on passenger side, my cruising temps stayed well within 10-15 degrees of ambient. Ordered one for the passenger side.. and now temps are back around OEM setup range..25+ range..
Just wondering where the MB box runs...

Oh and as far as the maf screen and baffle.. I found a nut driver set against it from the inside at an edge works well..Hold between your knees and give it a slap with the palm of your hand..

And one more train of thought.. LOL.. the Old TVT designed intake.. where did the pipe go to? ... HMMM...

Yep.. 15 dollar OBD II blue tooth module and your android based phone.. clear cel lights and see a few things on whats going on with data logging ... No AFR settings that have worked on our cars yet..
Not "professional grade".. but still useful for the price.

That's what really got me.. with my half HA/OEM setup.. even when temps went up from sitting in traffic.. when up to speed it didn't take 3-4 miles to be back with 10-15 degrees of ambient.. with all OEM.. after heat soak.. never got back under 25 degrees of ambient.

Well my first blunder!

In doing the throttle body upgrade the instructions on this forum explains how to releasee the elbow from the throttle body. There is this long tab on the top of the elbow that you are supposed to lift as you pry the elbow from the thottle body. The clip or tab is plastic and like a fool I put to much pressure on it and broke the clip off. My question is do I need to purchase a new elbow now or will the elbow still be functional and stay on place with the plastic long clip missing

You could probably put it back together and run it.. being careful when putting the engine cover/air box back on.. but I think I would start looking for one. I trust you still have the clip at the very top of the maf housing that hooks back into the manifold? Once assembled it shouldn't go anywhere.. But pulling on the engine cover without regard to that missing might kick it loose..

Might want another pair of hands in there.. holding the maf housing steady while putting the cover on..

MrMiata:

Like always thanks for the quick response!

Although your post has a positive twist I am wise enough to read between the lines and understand someone telling me that if it were them they would get a replacement piece. And so that is what I will do. I have gone this far I might as well go all the way and make sure everything is as secure as when i purchased the car.

Again, thanks for coming to my aid and providing direction. Off to find me a throttle body elbow, where ever I can find one?

In your original post, you did say you were going to do the NW CAI.
Go ahead with that and you won't need the elbow OR the plastic MAF housing.
Tell Rob you are DOWN and he'll do his best to help you out.

Just sayin ....

And that being the case.. Ease that baby back together.. the air box and existing clamps left should be enough to hold it if you are looking to drive it. Get a new one was long term.. pull that airbox off not thinking about it and might end up with maf sensor and all still attached.. LOL

It should hold I would think.... The MAF housing still has a clip point and that sucker is a good sturdy connection so like Mrmiata said, be careful but it should be fine.

So of the places I’ve called for 74mm throttle body, they have the 112 and not the 113 body. Difference?
