Car Keeps CRANKING but Does NOT START
Car Keeps CRANKING but Does NOT START
I have a 2005 chrysler crossfire limited
I have checked the battery, cables, and ground.
The car will start sometimes and after driving a bit will loose power and wont start up again
It will keep cranking but NO START !
ANYONE HAD THIS ISSUE BEFORE?
I have about 75k miles on it. I noticed some corrosion on the battery terminal (+0 and ate cable tips so I replaced them. But still no start just cranking?

One would think that if this was such a well versed problem, the solution would only be a couple clicks away. Like in a "if it hasn't broken yet, it will soon" section. Or perhaps "parts and tools you don't leave town without." Might start it with Crankshaft Position Sensor and Relay solder.

A good place to start for any problem. Index of Crossfire problems and repairs.
Give you these:

Mystery no start- RCM repair. (PDF)
Crankshaft Position Sensor
Relay replacement in RCM.

I repaired the RCM
And when I started it the 1st time it ran and then died
When I started a 2nd time I let it warm up for 30 mins then drive it about 15 miles
I'm still nervous about it dying the 1st time after the relay solder so I'm going to also replaace the crankshaft sensor next and try again

The problem is caused by heat, so why let it warm up?
Re: Car Keeps CRANKING but Does NOT START
Doesn't sound like the CPS.. Battery connections good and clean? Volt meter to check voltage level?
Re: Car Keeps CRANKING but Does NOT START
Even the starter.
Re: Car Keeps CRANKING but Does NOT START
You and MrMiata are right on point. Low voltage. Charging the battery now. What would cause it to drain that low? I drive it at least once every few weeks and the battery is only a year old.
Re: Car Keeps CRANKING but Does NOT START
Not saying it's your case here.. but semi retired the chevy truck, and put a cheap battery in it. If it's not ran once a week the battery goes dead with normal parasitic drain.

Re: Car Keeps CRANKING but Does NOT START
Hi, i bought my 05 roadster yesterday and it was having the same problem...i changed the crankshaft positioning sensor and it didnt solve the problem, then when i open the trunk i saw a little hole in the trunk, on the back of the seats, which had some kind of pump in it....it was wet probably due to rain(it is convertible). I dried the cables and the isolation with a hair dryer and the car is working perfect again, i hope it helps...

Re: Car Keeps CRANKING but Does NOT START
Just spent a mindless week trying to fix my 2004 Crossfire and as mentioned several times on this thread the culprit was the CPS. The only thing I would add to the symptoms would be that the car would start cold but when it reached normal running temp it would crank but not start. Plus, when changing out the CPS be sure to get a magnetized TORX E8 socket or you will risk having the bolt drop into the world of no recovery.....
