So i been looking at videos over and over on youtube and they never can truely help u discover what exhaust you would really want since lets face the facts. A camera doesnt do anything justice. I found that kid with the straight piped XF but i know with straight piping comes losing back pressure, than **** gets messed up. Any body have a muffler that they had a good loud sound out of?

1.remove your rear cats, if that is not it, remove the resonator if too loud, reinstall the rear cat,,,

2.remove the resonator, if that is not it, remove the rear cat.

3.there is no exhaust out there that gives you hp .

4. there are exhaust out there that gives you lots of noise,,,AND 80 MPH DRONE

5. do 2 or 1 for the best sound hp stays the same

this.. with todays CFD (computational fluid dynamics) technology, flow can be optimized while reducing noise.

 

My early readings on this subject (HP on exhaust systems) back in late 09 I determined there was about a 1 HP gain for some muffler/pipe setups. Def not the $/HP factor you would want. Now the headers, (especially some created lately), I understand they are showing HP gains. I think there is a set coming or already produced that will have dyno charts to document the gains. Am sure more to come!

 

I had the Magnaflow and didn't notice any improvement at the track or on the dyno. Took it off because of the interior drone.

 

boboridesbmx, You also need to make sure your wearing a good set of headphones when listening to the exhaust clips. Not the ear plug style ipod headphones... REAL headphones. I have Sony XB500's and I listened to the muffler clips before I bought my M-RS muffler, and a decent quality video with headphones in, sounds almost perfect, almost no difference at all.

 

you wouldnt happen to have a sound clip/video? Also how is the drone inside. i really dont want to have that obnoxious drone at 2000rpm tht people tend to have. but i dot want a lil louder ha

 

Ill post up a video tonight in a new thread (I got some other goodies to share with everyone), but the drone is insignificant. Between 2500 and 3000 RPM there is some but the only time it matters is cruising. Either pop a higher gear/lower/or speed up. The sound is phenomenal. It makes it sound how it should have all along. It was super loud at first but now its broke in and mellowed out. I put on the stereo when cruising and you dont hear any drone at all.

No problem at all. I hesitated to buy the muffler, but there was no reason to at all. It sounded extremely loud and too raw at first but now that its broke in it sounds soooo much better than stock.

 

ok i was set on buying the Magnaflow exhust...but anyone have any sites i can look at other exhust...particularly the Megan exhust??

 

1 post above yours has a link to a thread of a sound clip I took of my Megan Racing muffler. Its not a full exhaust but from what I have read you dont want a full exhaust unless its custom and true dual.

If you put in over ear, headphones you can catch the tone very well on the videos. That being said, my muffler is nice. Its not overwhelming to me (although my grandma said yesterday is very much so for her) but definately gets attention from anyone around. With the silencers in, it sounds like a deep version of stock.

 

alright you have to let me in on what you read on not getting a full exhust... and does that include catbacks???

 

Search exhaust or exhaust upgrades. The way I think about it is how can they provide horsepower? They are the exact same size/exact same design. A cat back will still have the 4 cats that come from the factory which is still the biggest restriction for us, and a cat back wont change that. Removing rear cats and creating true dual on a NA might net a couple hp but would decrease back pressure so it may lose horsepower. The only ones to benefit from doing that would be for a SRT which needs the added flow. But then again they have a larger diameter exhaust so it may not net that much either. The exhaust comes tuned from the factory for our motors, there is really no need to mess with it, unless you want a different sound. Its kind of like if you were to throw a 3" on a civic, you will lose performance from the loss of back pressure. So unless you have a turbo, supercharger or a V8 in your NA, I wouldnt worry at all about the exhaust, and even then I wouldnt make it high on your priorities.
