Default Can we agree on this coolant to use?

After reading through posts, I found that the Zerox G05 HOAT coolant is the one to use unless you go to the dealer? I saw it at NAPA for $14/gallon.

Valvoline.com > Products > Antifreeze Radiator Products > Antifreeze > Zerex G-05® Antifreeze / Coolant

Are there any other brands that are certain to meet the HOAT spec?

Thanks, James

That is what I am running. It is a better buy to buy undiluted. Now what is the trans fluid we are supposed to use?

I agree. I always use full strength. When flushing a system, it is nearly impossible to get all the water out of the engine block, radiator, heater core, etc... So using 50/50 to fill after a flush, will get you short on antifreeze. So the manual says 11.8 qts capacity on the coolant system. So I will add 6 qts (1.5 gal) to the empty system then top off with water. After a day or two of driving, I will check the freeze temp for a piece of mind.

Hmmm ..... I'd think that if you drain out 10 qts of 50/50, all you need do is to add 10qts of 50/50. Of course I'm assuming the existing cooling system has 50/50 already in it, and not pure water. Besides, when topping off with water, we should use de-mineralized H2O, and the premix should be using proper water.
Am I thinking wrong?

But if you drain out 10 quarts, you are not draining all the old stuff out. If I am going to spend the money on new coolant, I would expect it all to be new in my system. That is the reason for a flush out with water.

Used coolant can get a high acidity level from the various types of metals in the cooling system. Even if coolant looks new, tests good for freezing temps, it could still be damaging your engine components. They make a PH test strip to check for acid. I would want as much of the acid removed from the system as possilble before putting new in.

And besides, 1 gal of straight is equal to 2 gal of 50/50. Do the math before you get to the check-out.

I have only recommended 50/50 once. My son had a slow "cold leak" in his radiator, that he couldn't afford to replace at that time. I suggested a gal of 50/50 to keep in the trunk to top off when needed.

Correct !!
I used the premix because I was only topping off my coolant and not completely changing it.

My bad James .... I didn't pick up on the "flush". That would account for the water remaining.......

James makes good points. I used this coolant when I did my swap and there was no coolant anywhere. I bought full strength becuse it cost less overall. I poured half into a emtpy bottle and toped off both bottle with distilled water and then started filling the system. So who know what trans fluid? I am doing a trans service next weekend and adding blue top solonoids.

How often do you flush and change your coolant?

My cars that use the regular green, I do every 2 years regardless of mileage. For the Crossfire, I am going to do it every 3 years since it is an extended type coolant.
