Engine cuts out and barely creates RPM's
Engine cuts out and barely creates RPM's
05 Coupe got on the gas hard to pass and all of a sudden nothing, had to downshift to 2nd to get going and was able to get home. Check engine light came on. Took it to dealer, first he said it was connectivity to gas pedal and that didn't fix it then it then it was the computer board both were replaced. So 15K miles later I have the exact same problem. Check engine light after putting the pedal to the floor and can barely go 35 in 4th with it floored. Anyone else experienced this problem?
Re: Engine cuts out and barely creates RPM's
check the crankshaft position sensor, and make sure it is seated all the way...a clip broke on mine, and it wasn't seated all the way, it ran really rough until I could limp it home...and then finally discovered the problem...what code did it throw....???
Re: Engine cuts out and barely creates RPM's
Not sure what code, taking it to dealership tomorrow and didn't ask the last time (shame on me). Shutting it off and restarting the first time I sill had the same issue. Let it sit for 45 minutes, restarted and went around the block with no problems even got on it a little bit. Check engine light is still on. Thanks for the suggestion I will check that out in the morning.
Re: Engine cuts out and barely creates RPM's
Don't take it to the dealership unless it is still under warranty. Take it to any AutoZone, and they will read the code for free. Let us know what the code is, and we can most likely save you a lot of cash. But, if still under warranty, then good luck with it. I would still get AutoZone to read the code just for a second opinion. Dealerships are not known for having our best interests at heart.
Re: Engine cuts out and barely creates RPM's
Thanks for the Autozone info I didn't realize they would do that. This morning I went to head to the nearest Autozone and when I started the car the check engine light was off and it's running fine. Baffled but better that is better than broken.
Re: Engine cuts out and barely creates RPM's
If the crankshaft position sensor is acting up it will give you a P0335 code... if the car starts normally 3 times in a row it will clear the CEL... the CPS sensor still needs to be replaced!
It is just messing with you and WILL fail again.... at the most inconvenient times

Re: Engine cuts out and barely creates RPM's
Doc, I just found that out a couple of weeks ago with the Intrepid.... it didnt want to start on two attempts and then did but gave a CEL..... was for camshaft position sensor... I replaced it and all was well and the car is running better now... on investigation I found that the Intrepid uses a crankshaft position and camshaft position sensor just like the Crossfire..... At least they are easy to fix!!

What are the symptoms for a bad camshaft sensor?
I've had a code for the camshaft sensor(not crankshaft)for like 4 weeks, but car was running fine. Now the last few days 1 out of 8 starts it has problems starting and today it died while waiting in line at taco bell. I disconnected the battery and connected it again and then it started.
What I'm wondering is, is it unrelated, may be a bad battery or other problem, or would a bad sensor cause this?

Re: Engine cuts out and barely creates RPM's
the CAMshaft sensor will give the same starting issues as a bad CRANKshaft sensor...but different DTC error..the two sensors are used for the start sequence... I think it is 8 crankshaft pulses between camshaft pulses....
Since you said you had a camshaft error and it went away... I would replace the camshaft sensor.. lucky for you is that it is right on the front of the engine...upper passenger side... not expensive and easy to do..

Yeah, sorry I kinda sent this thread in a different direction cause mine was the P0341 camshaft position sensor error.
What I was wondering was if this:Your Parts Search Returned 1 Part(s)
and this:Duralast/Camshaft Interrupter-Magnet (SU6900) | AutoZone.com
are the same?
