Valve cover gasket on eBay - Yes/No ?
Valve cover gasket on eBay - Yes/No ?
So, I was looking around for some things and stumbled upon this thing, which looks like it might be a wonder part for our troublesome valve cover gaskets. I currently have mine disassembled and getting ready to put the gasket maker on them, but I was wondering if I should hold out and put on these instead, maybe with some extra gasket maker on the bolt holes on the inside. Thoughts??

Re: Valve cover gasket on eBay - Yes/No ?
That in fact does appear to be a valve cover gasket that should work on our cars. However, keep in mind that some of us (pointing no fingers) confuse the breather covers with the term valve covers. The breather covers sit on top of the valve covers and are what is most prone to leak/seep. It's my understanding that gaskets are not available nor were they factory produced for the breather covers and therefore require the use of a gasket maker type product. As a side note NAPA sells a product called "The Right Stuff" that most shops are now using with great success, albeit a bit on the pricey side.
Re: Valve cover gasket on eBay - Yes/No ?
Ah, I gotcha Hindin... So this is actually the gasket that goes under the valve cover that fits onto the block and not the breather covers that I have removed and have gasket maker for...? That makes more sense...
P.S. - I have the Permatex Ultra Black that everyone seemed to be recommending on here. Should be good with that, no?

There is more then one type of Permatex Ultra Black, make sure it's the one that says "gasket maker". If you have it on hand I'd go with it. Make sure you let it cure for the set amount of time and be careful with those little hex screw that are located near the center part of the breather covers. I believe 2 on the right side and three on the left cover. They're made out of soft aluminum and are prone to strip/break if to much torque is exerted. Good luck, let us know how it works out.

Thanks guys, yea, I know about the over torquing and the cure time, I am going to let mine sit for at least 48 hrs as I am waiting on some new ignition cables for the spark plug swap I did at the same time.
btw, it is the gasket maker one. Thanks.
