Thanks, I noticed my car makes this noise you can hear it more when in a fast food drive thru lane, good info.

I just bought an 07 Limited roadster with 30,000 miles and have noticed this as well. Do some of the cars make this noise and others do not? I don't remember hearing it on others I was test driving.

Well, (just my 2cents worth), my '05 n/a with 75k idles smoothly and is very quiet. It ticks a little on cold startup but then the noise is gone in a couple of seconds. When at a stoplight, I have to look at the tach to know the engine is running!

Ok, now I know I am NOT the most obsessive person on here. ;)

There is no way THAT is a LIFTER. I have heard bad lifters before and that ain't it. I know, the mystery is over and I'v come to the party after all the pretty girls are taken - but just had to chime in. You make me smile - cause even I wouldn't have worried about THAT noise!

INFINTE: You are only 23 - did you really EXPECT anyone to listen to you?

yea well, **** happens I guess.

Part of the reason the injectors are so noisy is because of how high the base fuel pressure is. The injectors are open a very short duration at idle, and the fuel pressure is so high it basically slams the injector shut when current is removed from the injector. The pintle slamming against the seat is basically what you're hearing.

that theory makes no sense, when you start up the car, it maks a loud ticking sound for about 2-3 seconds, and then it goes away after that. so are you saying the fuel pressure changes within a few seconds of start up?

i own an 06 chrysler 300 and i have the same noise. i was told by the dealer it was loud injecters but some people i know who are very well educated and who have been working on car for as long as i have been alive have said it is injecters. its been over a month and it has gotten worst. it is louder now. it sucks cuz i spent alot of money on it and only after several weeks did it start to make this noise. i bought it used with 81k. ive seen and heard the saying..."the chrysler tick" for this case. it seems chrysler manufacters their engines and have not taken heed to this issue.

I'm surprised no one has suggested an exhaust leak.

Mine does make a sound for up to 5 seconds on cold startup, I am convinced it's the lifters. I hear it in many of the cars at the Dragon.

But the remaining tick sound is said to be the injectors. This is a sound heard on a LOT of engines these days, I have heard it on Ford and Dodge engines in the police cars we work on at the shop.

I think INFINITE is probably right about what he is saying about the cause of the noise in the injectors AND about the fuel pressure. NO, the pressure probably does NOT drop muich on startup, but the lifters do quiet down with a little oil flow!
