Drove the car a little today. Removal of the baffles made a huge difference. I still have the 68mm MAF with no baffles, but does have the screen. Was going to take the sensor off and put it in the 74mm MAF, but could not get the tamper proof screws out. I will try and get the tool to get them out Sat. change it Sunday if possible. May just drill the center pin down and remove. The point is removal of the baffles seems to have made a big difference. Has anyone else done this yet?

I got the 68mm MAF sensor assy. out and put it in the 74mm MAF body. Runs really good. You can check my signiture for all the mods. Now I need to get some 45degree silicon tubes to hook up my " Devil Horns" and larger intake tubes.

Don't know the part number but it is hard to screw it up. If you look at the elbow you will see that it is made in two parts. The baffles are part of the side that hase the breather hose and the baffles are just kind of presssed or lightly glued into the other side. If you make a cut through the middle of the baffles the you can wiggle the side that they are pressed into and they will just fall out. On the side they are acutally part of the molded part, I nipped them down as far as possible and then used the dremel to grind them off.

Mine has 2 numbers on it ( and no, I didn't remove it to look, it was already on the shelf after installing the NeedsWings CAI ) :

A 112 141 0190 ( inside the info box )
A 112 140 0118 ( by itself outside the info box.

Google reports only Russian & German sites with a lookup to either part number.

If I were you, I'd be patient ( like I was ) and wait for a used NW CAI to show up for sale ........

( AND NO, YOU CAN'T HAVE IT ! - I'm keeping it in case I ever decide to get rid of the car ( doubtful, but you never know )

Ahh, I see another response while typing this, thanks alaxfire!
Just a groove that does not go all the way through.

My best stab at this is MB part#112 140 01 18, I got this from a 2000-2004 SLK parts list.

I am going to have LtdNA checked as I have done several small upgrades. Just curious as to RWHP now.

Well, I can tell you that the car seems to really run well.
I sent Eurocharged a message to see if we can get it in for a dyno run. Hope to hear back soon. I will post any info as soon as I get it.
I have also put the 2.75" intake tubes on and wrapped them with aluminized insultation on them to keep heat down. Thinking about insulating the bottom side of the airbox too, but I don't have anymore money now.
I'll send another message to Eurocharged to see what the schedule looks like.

Just got back from Eurocharged. Jerry did a six pull Dyno run for me. My last RWHP was 198.1 on 07/15/11. The one today was 211.4 RWHP. TQ looks to be just about the same as HP. Today was cooler temp ,no doubt, but the two 2.75inch air intake tubes, removing the baffles in the elbow, removing MAF screen, and adding the 74mmMAF certainly added some HP (12.8) . Cost of the tubes, MAF, etc probably $125, not bad. If any of you are think ing of doing some or all these changes, I think you will be pleased.
Of course, the first thing to do is get a dyno tune, which everything keys off.

Needswings intake works because it relocates the MAF to a more direct and unobstructed airflow path. The same design is used on the E, ML, and CLK class M112 engines.

Take the inof that I and many others have provided and use it the way you want to.
So the information provided here is actually incorrect based on reading through the thread. Correct? Just wondering if this should be done after I get my car back from having the Turbo installed.

If your going the turbo route, all you need to get is the 74mm TB. Everything else should be included in the turbo kit

Throttle body swap isn't high on my to do list. Just thought this simple mod might be benificial to the Turbo mod is all. I don't have a clue as to whether or not BEGi has decided removing the baffleing needs to be part of the turbo system install.

I am pretty sure that the BEGi kit will replace everything just like the NW intake does. The charge pipe will most likely look very similar to the NW intake.

Like lantana said the current MAF and elbow will probably be replaced/relocated. Also, I was under the assumption we won't NEED the 74mm TB since N/A xfires have the 68mm and the kit is for those. and I read somewhere that the actual inlet's outer diameter is the same size on both anyway. Not sure if that's true I just remember seeing it somewhere.
