Update!

Well, I've been looking into my boost situation and why it isn't making anymore then 8-9 psi. So far, I've checked pretty much EVERYTHING!
  • I re-made each vacuum line complete with the right boots for a proper seal (cleaned everything up quite a bit from my many trials)
  • I tested each vac line with a tool I made and ran each one to 20 psi
  • I removed the intake manifold, pulled it apart and put it back together
  • I locked it into the short runner position and sealed the changeover lever (again) - I also painted it up while it was out
  • I re-invented the tensioner and have twice the belt tension on the rotrex belt as I did previously
  • I added a roller to the serpentine belt to increase wrap on the drive pulley and changed over to a gatorback belt
  • I pressure tested the IC system as a whole for the 100th time
  • Etc.
I did find 3 small leaks at 20 psi but after all was said and done, I still make the same boost So, I have two more things to try over the next couple of weeks. I'll have to report back once those are done to see if that solves the problem. If that doesn't do it, then the SC is going back to Rotrex for an inspection as there may be something wrong with the internals.

I'm shooting for the ability to make 1 bar of boost (14.7 psi) and at 8-9, I am falling short. It is also putting me behind on other tasks. I need to re-work one of the brackets I made to relocate the coolant tank and make a permanent bracket for the rotrex HE, etc.

I guess I'll just work on the tune at this boost level to see what she is going to make. I might even bypass my intercooler to see what a non intercooled setup will make if I can find the time. It will be interesting to say the least to see what she will do in a minimalist fashion.

You know, I started out thinking this way, then put it on the shelf until I got it 100% complete and tested. Once I figure out this last hurdle in regards to boost, I can at least allow myself to start thinking that way.

I just hate to go there as it can quickly turn into a source of added stress in a situation where I am forced to take my time. I simply have too much going on right now to be able to commit to this 100%. But I tell you what, when I roughly size up what went into a kit for the MR2 versus the crossfire, I think I could put together a damn nice solution (non-intercooled - low boost) in the 4.5 - 5k range.

We'll see, right now I have some more testing to do!

Pics of Intake Manifold:

I think the aluminum paint looks great! I can't wait until I can pickup one of the mercedes covers from earlier in the thread that leaves the IM exposed!

Try replacing all that silicone with hard pipes. A lot of the boost pressure loss could possibly be attributed to how pliable the silicone gets at warmer temperatures. Instead of the pressure reaching the intake manifold, it simply bulges the silicone, causing pressure loss and air flow issues (turbulence, etc)

I know it sounds random but we've had the problem with older dsm's, evo's (reinforced silicone from the factory, bulges under full boost/operating temp)

I'm simply flowing too much air too quickly for that to be a factor. Think about it this way, if the whole 2.5' intake tract blew up like a balloon, at some point the system would have to equalize and it would result in a massive boost spike or blow out the BOV like an explosion. I'm not seeing either.

hmmm, how is the rotrex geared? (without the pulley) and what size pulley are you running?

Hey WEB, I was told that 1 bar of boost would blow our stock 320 engines sky high. Is that true, if it is, how do you plan to deal with it?

I'm looking forward to seeing your xfire. Very interested in adding supercharger myself. See you at Kemah.

The funny thing is that I would like to know who has even done it to know for sure because I would like to talk to them

That said, I don't plan on blindly boosting to 14.7 just to see what happens. The thing that I have been stuck on is that I should be making double the boost I am now and having to keep it under control with a restrictor. I should have the "ability" to make that much boost, then install the restrictor and tweak it to 8psi, tune, dyno, open it up to 9 psi and repeat and so on.

So far that hasn't been the case and I have yet to nail it down 100% as to why.

As it stands, it looks to be making 9 psi at redline. I decided to just bypass looking for the cause and go ahead and tune her up as is to get ready for the GTG tomorrow. So far, I have ended up having to start from scratch as I was hitting some fuel cut at 5k when I wound her on up. That's what sucks about a piggyback like the AEM, change the MAF clamp per RPM and your fuel map is screwed to the moon.

Oh well, I have that fixed now and am impressed with how she feels so far. I don't think it is going too far out on a limb to say that she will make more at 9 psi then a stock SRT! That remains to be seen as I have yet to get a full 6k run but hopefully I will by morning!!!!!

Most of the screw type blowers are made to leak around the screws and usually only put out from 4.5 to 7.5 psi boost so they don't blow it up and the blowwer will go a 100K miles without rebuilding it and eating them up with warranty repairs. I would be very careful and take your time. Don't get in a hurry. I'm sure that thing sounds cool winding up. I would love to hear it.

I've never hear that before . Stock SRT blowers fall under the category of the screw type and they make well above 9#s LOL!. Also the blower he's using is centrifugal type so the point is moot.

So I only read the first two pages of the thread and the last one.
I'll get to the 15 pages inbetween when i have more time.
BUT... Will this setup work on an SRT-6?
