Default Dual Exhast all the way back?

Any reason I wouldnt want to do this? I was just at a muffler shop that said he would be able to run straight from the cats two pipes into two glasspacks and weld on my tips for only 200 bucks.
or 250 with magna flow twins turbo type but they arent stainless steel.
But he has been there for a long time and gaurantees the system lifetime.
I was thinking of getting the Magna flow system 16633. but its twice the price and then I would be installing it...They seem to think the glasspacks would be to loud?

well, that sure was me ... and I got what I wanted ...

BUT, in all honesty, I cannot tell you whether I got any boost in performance with the muffler change I made ...

here's all the details plus a lot of other 'stuff' as well ...

Im think the main Question is dual all the way back? and or will it sound odd?
If its to loud then I could always put the other type mufflers on.
I know its supposed to be good to have a y pipe or single pipe system to equalize the pressure but isnt it a bit late to join them after the cats?
In the old days everyone always went to duals all the way back.
Im just wondering what other people have found before I do this tommorow or not..
Ive heard some 6 cyl trucks before that sounded really strange!
I think it would be better dualled all the way back......

I think you're raising some good questions as well as some interesting points ... there may be those among us whose experience would qualify them to offer intelligent response, but I'm not among them ... I was seeking a sound and the Magnaflow 16633 was close, but not quite what I wanted plus it had the disadvantage of the annoying 'drone' at certain RPMs .... I got the sound I wanted and did so at a significantly lower cost than would have been the case with the Magnaflow, but your questions are of a rather different nature and I think that while you sorta want the sound I got, you have other issues I simply will have to defer to someone else to answer ...

best of luck ... and whatever you end up doing, be sure to share with the group, won't you ?

I am debating deleting the rear cats and run duals into a dual in dual out magnaflow maybe. Let us know how your setup turns out. chris

Im a tool maker If I need to, I will make a nice bracket or something that no one can see them.....

I had headers and duals on an in line six and it sounded soooo good. But I don't have a clue how it would sound on a Crossfire.

harley,

don't quote me on this, but i'm pretty sure that a true dual system will not net any real performance advantages. i know on an FI engine (turbo or s/c) it can help reduce back pressure and you may see some gains, but i dont think on an N/A setup.

Like I said, don't quote me on that. There are many people who are more knwoledgeable on the subject than I am. I'm sure someone can confirm or denouce this for us soon.

I think the biggest concern with changing exhaust is whether you get the dreaded "drone" or not...nothing like a vibrating car to peeve you off...and if not done properly, there's always that chance.

We have a dual on our car and it sounds amazing, but that is completely subjective.

We paid 1600.00 from a reputable shop, if you can get it for 200.00 then go for it, but don't settle for crimp bends or pipes that bang. I don't know how the labor rates are down there, but for our system there was about 4 hours of welding. That plus the 800.00 in material cost made for a costly, but worth it system.

Good luck!

have it made out of stainless or dont do it IMO.
i have a strong feeling its going to be loud, im fact so loud you will put your stock system back on, so dont destroy the stock system to help build the new one.

Go to my gallery. There's only one picture there, but it's exactly what's being discussed here.

No, you can free up power on a NA too. Especially if you delete or replace the Cats...

As long as you want looks and sound, not power. See my thread...the answers you seek are there. Ill make it easy on you, put your money towards something else. Im suprised no one mentioned my dual exhaust r and d.

If you're going to buy a new muffler, please go stainless. If you're not improving on the original car's parts, then why spend the money?
