Yeah, but it's a bent-up rough prototype. A good friend of ours is waiting for me to make one that actually fits properly and looks right. I have the template made and at work, but work has been hectic. FP will get his first. Even before me. He asked for it a whole long time ago, and I feel like a shmuck for not gettin' 'er done.

Tony, you might recognize the "bling"? I never thought I'd make some for myself, but the wife actually likes it! So in it went. The CAI works well-an across-the-board reduction of 12 degrees F versus the stock airbox. Great breather. Sounds like a 747 when I punch the throttle.

Yes, sir. 2 X 450CFM cones.

Now, I'm looking for someone in this area that can weld .060" aluminum. I want the airboxes to be welded to the elbows and I can then make the y-pipe out of aluminum too. That would make it one piece and all welded.

The one you see is .060" stainless. Too much heat capacity. Once it gets hot, it takes 5 minutes at WOT to cool it back down. Everything else stays nice and cool.

 

Max, that looks excellent....do you have 3" openings feeding past the radiator? You might want to make the Y and elbows as one unit and keep the connection at the 'air box' to make change outs easier.. great job...

 

were did you find the y pipe? is it 3"? i need one of these!

 

Mike, the wide stainless band on the airbox is where it splits to service the filter inside. As it is, I just loosen the clamp at the MAF and lift the whole thing out at the flex pipes (radiator).

The flex is pretty neat. It's called "smooth bore" ducting. It's very smooth inside and is only .030" wall thickness. At $12 per foot, iy ought to be pretty neat!

And no, the feedthroughs are still constrained by the shape of the openings. I refuse to cut the rad support structure. I just compressed the flex to fit. But it is the thinnest-wall stuff I could hope for!

 

Yes, 3" OD inlets and 3" X 3.2" oval outlet.

I really want to make a couple of them out of aluminum. The SST is too dense and holds heat too well

By the way-I made 2 of these. One goes to the member that commissioned the work. It will be shipped this week to him.

His patience is remarkable!

 

Wait a short while so I can find someone to weld aluminum. As I said, stainless is not the best choice of material. I'll be looking for a guy this week.

 

Max, I wasnt suggesting you cut around the radiator... I just stuffed the 3" through the passenger side and 2 3/4" on the driver side... Just curious if you opened it up by taking out the plastic parts and fed tubes out the front....

Here's mine. I'll be modifying the engine cover later on. I went for a bit more subtle look.

 

Oh, I know you weren't! I did the same, but the 3" thinwall is one helluva' tight fit on the drivers' side, ain't it? And so far, they just come flush on the front-no additions. Yet.

I'm thinkin' of a 2-piece setup, rectangular in the rad wall, but transitioning to 3" on both the inside and the outside. Believe it or not, I have 1 of the closest things right in my garage-it's an adapter for my trimmer/blower from Sears. 1 1/2" X 4 1/2" to 3" round. ~ 7" square. No loss of cross-section.

Now I've just got to find 3 more?

I took the plastic parts out tonight. What is the flapper for?

So what is the best way to get through the core support opening? I want to get as close to the grille as possible, with just a tube or hose, no filter there since I will be using the MB c320 airbox. 2¾" silicone hose on both sides? Can you get a 3" hose through both sides? I am looking for ideas.

I'm thinking of making a pair of "Slasher" stripes out of the same material.

What do you'se guys think?
