Oil Change + Check Engine Light = Not Happy
Oil Change + Check Engine Light = Not Happy
So I changed the oil for the second time. This time using a K&N oil filter, some regrets there but I'm sure it will do just fine as other members have mentioned.
Sorry for the long winded description... hopefully someone will catch my error with all the details...
Here is where I get a little stumped. After the oil change, I cycle the engine, check the dip stick and every thing seems normal. I do this a few more times to make sure. Let it run a bit etc... Then I remembered that I can get the CPU to check the oil level. I figure two is better than one so I run to diagnostic... comes back - "OK". OK good, or so I think. As I'm cleaning up I see the instructions on the filter box regarding the lines... and i think ohh crap did I do this right? So I open the filter back up to check... SHEW!! all good. Run the engine again check the level on the stick... right smack in the middle! Good... Go to run the CPU check... the clock went blink blink blink and after a few nothing... try again blink blink blink ... nothing... start her up and the Check Engine light is on!!! I start to panic... maybe theres too much oil!!! So i take some out, despite the reading on the stick (i hate the way the stick reads)... Run the CPU check again... same thing, start it up the Check engine light is on!!! NOOOO!!!! Just the thought of having to go to the dealer is making me sick to my stomach... Turn it off... let it sit turn it on (with out running the oil diagnostic first) and no check engine light... I liked the current status so i left it there...
Any body have a clue why the Check Engine light was coming on? Whats up with my diagnostic? I know the manual says 5 min after a warm engine or after sitting all night... but i didnt think it would trigger the check engine light!!
