Question MSD Dash Hawk or equivalent

Is there another unit similar to the MSD Dash Hawk that will work for the NA xFire?

It should work since it is CAN compliant. Have you contacted MSD on the compatibility or did you want something a little cheaper?

Thanks for the post back. I emailed them about compatibility an hour ago. Our car isn't "on the list", but I had to ask.

I struck out Googleing for an "equivalent", but noticed an "ad" on the right side of the screen on my 3rd attempt. I put up the post before this.

I'm also looking at the Nitrod VPM-100G. It seems to do a heckuva' lot more for the same price. AND it will read/delete/reset codes. The only connection is to the OBDII port. If you know anything about either of them, please let me hear back?

Thanks!

That's the first time I saw that. It looks like a nice piece! I'm going to search to see if anyone has used this. The screen looks easier to read than the Dashhawk's too. Good find! Let me know what MSD comes back with.

The first response was "Which product?" I clarified and will post back ASAP!

Thanks for doing the research, I wouldn't know where to begin...

The response (please note that at the bottom I specified a 2005 Crossfire 3.2l w/o supercharger) :

Sir,

The dash hawk requires that pins 6 and 14 are populated in your vehicles
OBD-II connector. You may want to take a look and check that out first.

http://dashhawk.com/faq.html

There is also a list of vehicles that the dash hawk should work with.

http://dashhawk.com/support.html

If pins 6 and 14 aren't populated, the dash hawk will not work.
Generally the dash hawk only works with 2004 and newer vehicles.

Thanks,
MSD tech

Hi Max,

Yes, the VPM-100G is compatible with the Crossfire 2005.

Let us know if you have other questions.

hey looks like a good find, try it out and do a write up on what you think about it, tell Nitrod you plan on doing a full write up on thier product and maybe they can give you a freeby or at least 50% off just to do the install and review for the website!

If all the features work like they state on the website I will buy one for my crossfire guaranteed. Anychance they sell the same product but with a larger screen?

I found a couple forums and a video of the unit. Everyone who has it likes it although there was one Subbie owner who didn't like it but that was because his car wasn't compatible. Here is a vid from youtube.

Here are a couple forums where they discuss this.

well if it's not compatible with the 04-05 imprezza why would it work in our car? This needs further investigation!
