AMG 5.5 liter SC AMG upgrade for SRT-6?
AMG 5.5 liter SC AMG upgrade for SRT-6?
Just did a little search to see if anyone has ever given consideration to
installing AMG's 5.5 liter SC engine as a replacement in the SRT-6? I plan
to keep mine, and eventually replace the motor when it wears out. The
obvious choice for replacement would be the AMG 3.2 liter SC engine,
but I'm dreaming about a V8 (476 or 500+ hp). I know this would require
some modification, upgrade to the ECU and intercooler, etc... But I'm
wondering if the 5.5 liter engine would mount up? I understand that it
would be a little longer in the block, and that mount points may have to
be modified. But I think the transmission is the same, so connecting to
that should not be too difficult (bell housing change?)
At the moment, this is more of a "what if" thread, but I'd love to be
educated on this just a bit. I think I'm in the right place for that.

your only reasonable option is the M113 engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_M113_engine, but you would be the envy of the entire MBZ forums if you can get a M119 engine to bolt up and function correctly, ahh to dream...

is M113 Supercharged outputting 493 hp and 516 ft/lbs of torque. Now,
the question is, what is meant by based on the M112? Does this mean
same size block physically but bored differently, or the design is the same
with respect to routing of all the various plumbing circuits and lifter
components, but bigger? I guess this is rather un-charted territory and
I better start doing some serious research. If I find this might be, in any
way, possible, I'll add something to this thread.

The AMG 5.5 is a bored and stroked version of m113 base engine, where in the world will you even find this motor? I guess you could order the AMG crank.
I really would be curious as to who, or if it's even possible to find a shop that does the Silicone carbide coatings on aluminum cylinder walls? Then I can just skip the step of getting larger sleeves made for a base M112 3.2L-3.7L.

perhaps one could be purchased directly from AMG. If not, maybe out
of a salvage vehicle (crashed, smashed, so long as the motor is OK).

Sure this isn't new to everyone - have a look on the startech website, on the Crossfire pages you will see their V8 6.1L. Forget about $25K though.
From the site;
The engine bay of the new coupe turned out to be large enough to accommodate the STARTECH V8 6.1 increased-displacement engine, albeit after some modifications. Power is transferred to the rear axle via an electronically controlled five-speed automatic transmission and a custom-developed locking differential.
The STARTECH V8 6.1 engine delivers 426 hp / 313 kW at 5,400 rpm and produces a gigantic peak torque of 621 Nm at 4,100 rpm. Thus equipped the two-seater coupe turns into a purebred sports car with extreme performance potential: The STARTECH Coupe V8 6.1 takes just 4.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 - 100 km/h. Top speed is 300 km/h.

car (after the SRT-6 is totally worn out. I run cars for 250,000 miles or
more before retiring or demoting) or $25K + install and ECU (how much for
install I don't known, but the numbers would seem to support a large install
price factor) to turn my SRT-6 into an SRT-6+2. That motor could easily
produce more than 500 HP at the crank. What a beast the Crossfire would be
with this platform driving the rear wheels.
Thanks again for your reply,

with the AMG motor. One, 50 more ponies from the get-go. Two, it has
a proven record, and Three, it keeps the original spirit of the SRT-6 (i.e.
it's a blown motor from AMG). I kind of like the idea of calling this the
SRT-6+2. I also believe this would have the added advantage of mating
up cleanly with the current/stock transmission.
Thanks again. Can't wait to see how your CL500 motor installation goes.
I'm looking forward to reading about your adventure.

Re: AMG 5.5 liter SC AMG upgrade for SRT-6?
I have seen the s/c 55 engines selling for $10-15K. Putting it in would be the same challenges I am facing with the CL500 engine. I have seen some nice supercharger kits for the 5.0 that will match or surpass the stock 55 s/c'd engine. When you are looking at this kind of swap, it doesn't really matter if you are starting with a Limited, Base or SRT.
