ok then someone should do the srt-4 motor and modify it for rwd. should make the care closer to 50/50 and make 300 whp with no problem.

Now that's thinking out of the box.

One of my eventual projects is to throw a V8 in the midsection of my Porsche 914. the only problem is the stock 901 tranny cannot handle the torque generated by Chevy V8 that's more than 285 hp. Trying to find a 930 Tranny is hard and expensive, but I could put close to 500 hp with the 930 tranny.

surprisingly, Porsche transmissions line up really well with Chevy engines only needing a little conversion plate.

I do like the SRT-4 motor in our car since they are pretty cheap, engines should be abundant, would open up more room in our engine bay, and cheaper to fix/mod. Keep in mind that the SRT-4 motor's being upgraded to be put in the Nitro so it'll come close to 300 hp OTB depending on when this gets done.

Either way, a forced induction 4 banger in this car would be crazy. Coupled with a decent rear spoiler/diffuser, lowered suspension and a 285 rear tire should keep the Xfire stuck to the ground.

I've also thought about the srt-4 swap. I had one as my last car and loved that little motor. Perhaps one day one might find its' way into the srt-6, but not anytime soon. To indulge my speed craving I'm starting a build up of an all-tube chassis, srt-4 motor'd street/strip/track beast. I'm trying to stay at around 1,500 # and will tweak that little four banger to the tune of 400-450 rwhp. Now that will be an interesting ride. Stay tuned, I'll post pics of the progress.

Why don't you try and find the specs on a GM fwd tranny out of a Bigblock RV, If I remember correctly these where used in most Corvair SB and BB chevy conversions. Ask around the hot rod corvair forums for the correct differential and trans.

I don't know about you guys but when the battery technology finally catches up with demand, I would really enjoy doing a 200 hp electric conversion set-up that could easily smoke a 300 hp srt4, lol. So I guess I'm just gonna have to do more homework on 3 phase speed controllers in the meantime.

Myself, I'd put in the 3.2 Mb Turbo Diesel. A couple of easy mods, ecu-exhaust-injectors, and it should be pushing 300 hp and 450+ lbs of twist. And doing all that while getting 40+ mph on the highway. Probably closer to 45 mpg.

so you are going to strap a weak rear end from a four cylinder car to a six cylinder engine? i'm sure our rear end could handle as much power as the silvia's.

I wonder if they'd offer a conversion kit; a DIYer would be fun.

Just a little FYI: with a big turbo swap and proper fuel feed, that engine is easily good for a very reliable and streetable 500 WHP, on stock internals. Plenty of guys on the SRT forums are doing this and a few guys at PTCrew.com are doing the same thing with this engine in the PT GT. Two of them recently turned 12.0 1/4 miles in PT Cruisers with this setup (well, one of them actually went 11.96) without nitrous. That engine is incredibly stout and more than a little overbuilt.

When did they start putting the Mercedes W112 engine in PT Cruisers ? Did I miss something ?

Look at the post I quoted: x'ed mentioned the 2.4L 4 cylinder out of the SRT4 - that's the exact same engine the comes standard in the PT Cruiser GT.
In fact, the engine was developed for the PT and only later used to make the Neon SRT4.

I have access to an Auction site, www.copart.com, where any car imaginable comes up for sale due to repossession, fire, theft, accident, etc. I seen a few of you mention the SRT-4 swap so I looked one up. Here is one with only 16,896 miles and I have seen cars at these auctions go for a few hundred bucks.

Quick update! Out of curiosity I went back to the auction site and counted 14 SRT-4's coming up. Some had substantial front-end damage, while others like this one had absolutely no engine compartment damage. If anyone is seriously interested in during an SRT-4 swap, this would be the place to get your donor engine.

Here would be a great donor recipient of an engine swap. This Crossfire is up for auction because it was totaled due to flood damage.
