Default Exhaust headers...

HDDP, I noticed this older post on another site:

I bought the Super Sprint headers and am preparing for the install. Before I get into this project, can I install without dropping the engine ?

I thought that you should know that Clk&Slk was talking about a blown 4, NOT the normally aspirated V-6. The six may show a better response to a good header system.

Now I'm confused. You are going to try to install the Super Sprint headers on what car ? They do not fit the Crossfire. The angle and length are incorrect. I don't know anything about the 230 or 320 or 32. But if they had fit the Crossfire, it would have taken a very patient person to install them without dropping the engine. I guess it could have been done if you had mini hands. Also, you'll have to figure out where to cut in the 02 sensor after the flange in the new down pipe you'll have to have built.

Default The original poster used the handle HDDP, I thought it was you................

Sorry for the confusion, as I mentioned I thought the poster was you asking the question.
The response was from a guy (Linh Nguyen) that put a header on an SLK 230, he didn't read, or didn't know that your Crossfire had the V-6. The 4 banger apparently showed no gains from the header on a dyno. The reason being that the stock header was designed pretty decently.

Sorry, that's what I get for zipping thru the post without digesting it... Yes it was me asking the question and yes, I did find out that you would have to drop the engine... and yes the Super Sprint headers for the CLK fit the engine / exhaust manifold, but not the layout of the engine bay. I have since returned them and am back to square one. Any suggestions aside from having a custom set built ?

We have one guy looking to have a set of headers made up for his 320, but that hasn't happened yet, and frankly I doubt that it will. He talks a lot but we have seen little action from him. He is the only one that has even mentioned headers for the car except for those asking the question.
Custom may be the way to go, and if you decide to go that route, let us know, that may very well be the way to get yours paid for. If they can be made to fit the SLK as well, I'm sure that there would be a fair amount of interest at our site...
I don't know if the current manifolds on the 320's and the 32's are exactly the same, but if they are, there is (I think) a good market for a header system that has proven horsepower gains.

The manifolds are the same 320 vs 32, but a properly designed set of headers would be different for each car.

I'll figure something out. I know we can squeeze another 4-6 hp with a good set of headers.
