Worlds Cheapest V8 Swap
Re: Worlds Cheapest V8 Swap
BTW, stay tuned for my next project.
It's a boat. 1988 Sea Ray 230 "Weekender"
I'll be picking it up this Saturday morning.
I built new boats ranging from 21' to 43' for 13 years before I hired on at Boeing. I enjoy fixing and flipping them.
Lot's of boaters in the Puget Sound. Always a demand for boats around here.
I'll fire off a thread in the "Off Topic" section when I get it and figure out all that it needs.

A QUICK note to all, make sure the sensors you buy are true BOSCH! Some sellers cleverly word sales as bosch but may or may not state they are a clone or knockoff. Just look deep into an ad, sometimes the seller will include the item is a BOSCH replacement (replacement) then when you get it the part isn't bosch. Just saying!

Re: Worlds Cheapest V8 Swap
Here is a slightly different box and I don't think it's a knock-off

Another listing https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-W2...sAAOSwNsdXSNrH
The same box with two white stripes on each side.

Re: Worlds Cheapest V8 Swap
I swapped out the Crank Sensor and Cam Sensor this morning.
Water pump and thermostat have been shipped out.
TCU will be delivered to Eurocharged today. I'm hoping for a quick turnaround.
I'm in another holding pattern.
I am excited about picking up the boat tomorrow. Story is that his father replaced the cam 9 years ago and couldn't get it to start. It's been sitting in the shop for the last 9 years. I'm getting it for free from my lead at work. He is maxed out at work and has more money than time and he just wants it gone so he can park another boat in its place.

Re: Worlds Cheapest V8 Swap
Both of the engines had bad crank seals, the pumps were seized, the hull had a hole in it that someone tried patching with kitty hair, the keel storage compartment was cracked beyond belief.
I took my time and went through everything step by step. New SBT cranks, new Solas props, I patched the hole in the hull, fixed the storage compartment. I started the re-upholstery of the seats and a guy offered me a Flat Track 2006 YFZ450 for it and I traded it off.
Here's a few before and after pics. That's my wife waving in the boat.

Re: Worlds Cheapest V8 Swap
Good job, Jared. In my case, the boat has a clear title and already has been registered.
But I completely have no idea about the condition of the engines. Maybe the engines are OK, maybe not.
It has only one huge issue, it came to me without the keys LOL
As I said it's a long term project.

Re: Worlds Cheapest V8 Swap
I think it's just 2 wires.
You could use a toggle switch and it would work.
First thing I would do is pull the spark plugs and turn the flywheels by hand to see if the engines are free.

Re: Worlds Cheapest V8 Swap
If you put a battery in it and tow it to a Bombardier dealer, they will charge an hours labor to program a couple of keys for you.

I'll try everything possible to fix that issue, thanks
BTW I found your name (Jared) on Seadooforum.com https://www.seadooforum.com/threads/...i-bypass.9533/

And no, there's no way to bypass the DESS key, think of it as being just like our SKREEM.

It was a 1980 Sea Ray 260 Weekender. That's an older 26" foot boat.... not interested. It needed pretty much everything.
Oh well, I'll find another sooner or later.
Haven't heard from Sean at Eurocharged. He said if my TCU was delivered early in the day, (it was delivered at 10:30) he would get right on it and overnight it back to me. He didn't email me a tracking number, and it hasn't shown up yet.
