HP Math = 367
HP Math = 367
We all know Chrysler says the HP of the SRT6 is 330HP. But we also know the engine in the SRT6 is the exact same as the SLK32 AMG therefor it's really 349HP. Now we all have seen the video on the design of the SRT6 with the two Chrysler Engineers on the project who hint the SRT6 has more HP due to better cooling. Those same two Engineers came to a meet and greet on a Friday night before the Woodward Dream Cruise for a Q&A session. In that session they said the SRT6 had 18 more HP than the SLK32 AMG since the SRT6 SC cooling was better. By my math that makes every 100% stock SRT6 that rolled off the line 367HP.

This may be true or not. The only way to confirm the horsepower of a stock SRT6 is to get it on the dyno. It is easier to chassis dyno an engine but one has to allow for driveline losses so the real number is still in the mist. An engine dyno is the only way to get a true reading and I am not about to take my engine out for that. For my driving and on the roads here in SW Missouri and NW Arkansas, the horsepower is quite adequate. I just tell people that the 330 number is the quoted factory HP.
If the SRT6 has a lower rating than the SLK32 AMG, this may have been an agreement between M-B and Chrysler to rate the SRT6 lower than the M-B because M-B would not want the Chrysler product to overshadow the M-B product. If you recall, the joining of the two companies was touted as a linking of equals, but in reality, M-B was the big dog of the pair. Other factors that may come into play relative to the HP readings are the intake and exhaust systems of the two cars. I have not compared them to see how equal, or not, that they may be.

Great to hear from you, Kern! And on the roads up there, I found my N/A to be adequate - hard for me to use ALL the HP in those curves and not heat up the brakes toooooo much.
And you know, the Wiki on this says the '320 is good for 215HP, same as the Crossfire. I"d always thought the Crossfire was 215 and the '320 was 230 but maybe not - or WIki is wrong.

Re: HP Math = 367
I was at a discussion in 2010 at the Woodward GTG with an SRT engineer in attendance and and I did not hear him (Art?) mention an extra 18hp. He said it was the same as the SLK32 although the Crossfire seemed faster.
The NA was advertised as 215hp, as was the SLK320 although I think at some point the SLK was quoted as 218hp.
