SRT-6 buying help
SRT-6 buying help
Hey! I am looking for all around general advice for buying a Crossfire. So, I have driven a base model Xfire and I loved it! Im already in love with the styling. I would pull the trigger and buy a base model but I do know that they are a little slow, and im worried I will get very tired of the lack of power very quickly. I have also done a ton of research and have found that there is no real way to mod the base models for any reasonable amount of money. It seems that if I want more power, the cheapest way is to buy an SRT6. That being said, I would really like some help with knowing how much I should spend on one.
Heres what I want:
Under $10k
Under 100k miles
Is that going to be possible to find? I also have a question about the roadsters. I know that they are worth more and will appreciate more than the coupe, but I am worried about loosing some stiffness(chassis stiffness and over all ride quality). Can any roadster owner confirm or deny this?
Also, I am in Colorado and have to be dependent on the top working. Can anyone attest to how good/bad the top material and strength is? Is the mechanism reliable?
I have also found a 2005 SRT6 Roadster in gray with 99,310 miles asking $9,900. It does have aftermarket wheels (which devalues the car in my opinion) Pictures look great. Clean title. Should I be assuming something is horribly wrong with the car? Or is this market price?
Thanks for all the help!

Re: SRT-6 buying help
Couple of quick answers
I have had both Coupe and vert, didn't notice any difference in Ride or handling. The car was designed to be a vert, and the vert also has some extra stiffening bolted to the chassis
The top hydraulics will leak at some point, and unless it has an aftermarket top, the rear window will separate at some time, unless it has been repaired already.
As to price, probably about right for the mileage, but every one I have seen at that kind of mileage has had some cosmetic flaws, and usually some of the "standard" issues, unless they have been addressed. I bought a coupe in 2017 for the same money, on the basis of pictures, and although it was OK, the pictures hid some flaws, and it was nowhere as clean as the two I previously sold. If you can find one for sale from someone on here, I would do that and pay a little more.
Hope this helps, they are a blast especially when modded

Re: SRT-6 buying help
The SRT has its own interior trim, notably the seats shape and material..
Re: SRT-6 buying help
You're right. I had a brain fart. In 2005 there was a basic XF with cloth seats and blacked out windshield trim, no foglights, no seat heaters, etc. The SE was a basic with SRT6 rims and a single color.
The 2004 had that slick rear auto-dimming mirror that D-C cheaped out on in 2005. They also added a dead pedal in 2007 for sure. The glove box configuration also changed somewhere in those years.

The SRT type rims on the SE were painted differently.
Re: SRT-6 buying help
To give you a heads up, I paid $9500 for my SRT-6 Coupe in Nov 2019 with 62k miles. I used the inspection from my mechanic to cut the asking price a bit -- it needed new rear brakes and there were leaks from the valve gasket and the tranny plug.
At the same time, I had found a SRT-6 Convertible with about 75k miles for 10.5k list. I had meant to see it before buying mine but my seller countered with 9.5k, and I preferred getting a coupe for AutoX purposes (weight + stiffer front springs).

Re: SRT-6 buying help
I did end up buying it haha. Works great from what I can tell. Might need new motor mounts but got me from Cali to Colorado (1,100 miles) flawlessly

Re: SRT-6 buying help
Motor mounts are fun...................not ! The one on the drivers side is a pain, and that is usually the first to go. Incidently they recommend you change both mounts and the trans mount at the same time, trans mount is easy.
I bought a special tool to undo the top bolts but it was still a pain.
I ended up putting a piece of braided cable around the DS to try and limit the lift. If you have seen one of these on a dyno, it looks like the motor is trying to climb out of the car.......no wonder they fail.......
