Question Sticks In First Gear

My 05 SRT stays in first gear. After starting out when you come to a stop the car shifts to first gear all by itself.
You can move shifter back in forth but "D" is still showing on dash and car is still in "1". To get out of this you
must put car in Park, shut engine off and remove the key. Put key back in, start engine, put in Drive and go.
It will do this once a month, once a week or 3 or 4 times a day. I have taken the car to Chrysler Dlrs. that have test equipment
for Crossfires and shop tecs. qualified to do repairs and they all say we cannot find anything wrong with your car. No lights
or codes showing. My car has 49,000 miles on it. Any one else have this problem ?

Mike, most people who took their car to a dealer has this problem as well. The first place you should have came to was this forum. I have no idea how much they soaked you for to date but if it is the transmission plate you could have had it replaced inexpensively if handy with a few hand tools and any ability to partially lift and drain/work on the transmission. Another problem it could be, is the 'digital' shifter. There are a few posts about that as well. If it would help, download the service manual from here, do a little research there then search a few posts about the trans plate or shifter. If these things are not within your capability, an independent European shop might be able to help you once you have an idea what is wrong (by doing the steps above ie service manual and perusing the posts about the trans and shifter). That would be my starting point, but it may not be everyones thing to try to fix themselves. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I bought all the service books when I purchased the car. I did not know I would need a truck to carry them around. I have tried looking things up, but that stuff is
way beyond me. Its been doing this for 4 or 5 years. I had Trans. leak and repaired . They found nothing either. I will read posts from Forum and discuss findings with dealer. I cannot
work on this car. I know of a garage In State College, Pa. that works on high end sports cars, for high end prices. I will have to save up and take it there. Thanks again. XFire Mike.

My best guess is that the problem lies in the gear shift mechanism, maybe some liquid was spilt on it at some time.

~ How did "they" fix your transmission leak? Was a complete drain and flush /filter change done? Has the TCM been inspected under the passenger side footwell for fluid wicking? Was the "o" ring at the transmission harness connection replaced?

I have only driven this thing in rain 2 times. Just by accident though. Drove in snow storm on way to Florida first year of purchase. Never used that thing they called
a Cup Holder. I thought that was the Ejection Seat Lever. Thanks for the reply.

It could be another reason other than a spilled liquid causing the problem.
Shifter problems have been caused by a faulty shifter quite a few times.
Any codes set?
