Need help to troubleshoot my NoN Working Supercharger
Need help to troubleshoot my NoN Working Supercharger
The 2005 SRY-6 I picked up was having issues with the supercharger. It would work when it wanted to. Seller told me the pump went out and was replaced with the revised pump that ends in 010. The SC still did not want to kick in like it should. They gave me the IC separator kit from Needwings, that Rob had suggested would help. I never felt or heard it working. Is there a section in the service manual to troubleshoot it step by step, if so I cant find it. I will check to make sure the pump has power and does work and install the kit while I am at it.
If anyone has any input on what steps to take I would follow it because what good is a SC car if the damn thing does not work! Thanks

Keep in mind that the SuperCharger clutch is controlled by the ECU, and the ECU will not engage the SC unless it is totally happy with how things are working.
I am not an SRT guy either, but I DO know the ECU is watching a LOT of parameters to determine if SC engagement is "safe". (Same applies to A/C engagement, there are a few items it is watching then, too - maybe not the SAME things, but stilll...)
If the ECU is getting information that there is an issue with any of these, the ECU won't command the SC clutch to engage:
... The engine temperature is too high
... The engine cooling fan is not turning on or drawing the expected current when told to run (If the SC engages when the engine is cold, but not hot, this may indicate a problem with the cooling fan.)
... The coolant pump is not working (I am not sure how it knows if this pump is running, there is no monitoring of pump current flow like there is with the engine cooling fan)
Also, it is POSSIBLE that it is simply a bad relay that powers the coolant pump - that relay is on the pulse module. (Every car has one, even tho non-SRTs have no SC clutch!) Consider yanking the pulse module and inspecting the relay contacts - note that the starter relay is also on that board. Pressing the relay contacts together can cause unexpected starter engagement so be careful! One relay powers the starter directly, the other, the coolant pump.
The 'relay" for the SC clutch, if it exists, is on the ECU...

Re: Need help to troubleshoot my NoN Working Supercharger
well, after doing the always on mod, the SC pump is on and pumping. I know that much. pulled a plug and they look like the original plugs NGK & MB Mercedes Benz and it looked like it needed replaced. I am working on getting everything serviced in hopes I will find the issue along the way. It never has overheated so I assume the fan is working, will check. air pump code clear when I found a breather hose had cracks . Oil leaks on the motor so been getting to the bottom of that.. thanks

SHAME ON YOU ! We just hate it when some one reports "it's fixed" with no details.

ala_xfire I had added a red led to my sc clutch to show how it operated, trying to settle the chicken - egg who came first discussion. The led showed that the sc stayed on once it started UNTIL you were idleing for some time. The video is still out there on utube like 12 years ago. Enjoy Woody

Re: Need help to troubleshoot my NoN Working Supercharger
so please understand that I am not sure of much at this point. As mentioned I did the "always on" mod and replaced the RCM with a new revised standard unit. fired it up last night and my buddy told me it did engage when I went over 1500 rpm. thats it. no test runs or pulls due to the madness with my mother passing. I am sorry but those are the facts . . just the facts. More at a later time but for now. . its alive !!
Re: Need help to troubleshoot my NoN Working Supercharger
thank you sir, never ready to loss mom. i really which I could tell you what it was that made it start working. I did find a few cracked breather lines and that cleared the only engine code I had. Cleaned the weeds out of the IC , it was packed, cleaned the throttle body and am trying to install the SL55 dual intake from Needwings, it has the cone inline filters instead of the 2 filters behind the grill, checked plugs and they look original so they need replaced. changed the oil and filter and will be servicing the SC in the morning. Its a odd powerband but I like it, great sound with the Magnaflow muffler out back. I am going to service it and head out to the beack so I can scatter her remains in the surf of the east coast of Fla. Pretty sure I will do most service tomorrow except for the plugs and wires.
Re: Need help to troubleshoot my NoN Working Supercharger
Thanks, I am prepared for the stink. Will do the rear Diff the same day and get it over with. Been on a push to get a few bikes out to a client so I have not had much time to do much. Once they leave I have BOXES of parts to install. Crazy deal on the Z23 rotors and brake kits, (drilled/slotted) shiny to! Got the intake installed and have done a few pulls and I have to admit its a fun car. My NA was sporty but this one flies. Still have all the panels out in the hatch area and the bulkhead so I am dyna matting before installing. Got the OEM head unit out and my plugs ready to install the shiny radio. Really has been a odd year that I would like to get behind me and in the books. I figure I can get everything installed by the new year. Thanks for all the help, I look forward to doing the dragon or any event in the coming year. Happy Thanksgiving to ALL ! Be Safe. GG in TN
