Default rear subframe bushings worn/missing

I recently bought a 2005 SRT-6 and started hearing a clunking noise when driving over train tracks or bumps. I first though the rear hatch lid was loose and making the noise but it wasn't the problem. I took the car to my local shop and they found the rear sub frame has a bushing that rotted and fell apart. They are telling me the entire rear suspension, differential , axles, brakes and wheels will need removed to replace it. Has anyone else had this problem and had it repaired? Feedback please. The car also wanders in the rear while driving on a straight road.

IF and I say IF One of those four "bushings" need replacement, then YES the rear carrier frame must be removed to replace the bushing.
I suggest you look at a parts diagram to see the part in question. I bought a bushing as you call it, just to get the bolt I needed to install a carrier frame (which I bought from a junk yard ) onto my limited 2005 Crossfire. Cost was $28.00 Click here: Mount kit

If the carrier frame (sub frame) needs to be removed you should heat the bolt as there is blue Locktite on the threads.

YOU should be able to see what they are talking about by simple going to their shop and looking at the car up on a lift.
The removal of the sub-frame ( carrier frame) is actually not too difficult. If two techs work together they should be able to drop the frame, replace a "bushing" and re-install easily in 6 to 8 hours.

Thank you all for the replies. My shop is going to replace the two front suspension carriage (as I know now) mounts. The rear two appear to be good. The two mounts were available from our local Chrysler/ dodge dealer for $178.00 each. The shop said they would charge me 5 hours labor. So it is going to be an expensive fix (to me) The shop is replacing the fuel pump and filter and all the fuel lines in the fuel pump/filter area. They where all rotted. The car was a Wisconsin car so it must have spent a lot of time driving in the winter months with the road salt coating everything. The car is now going to be garaged car driven on nice days. I owned a regular Crossfire (2007) for 5 years and loved the car and always wanted a SRT-6. I am so for in love with the power of my SRT-6, it is the what all Crossfires should have been in my book. Thanks again for the info.

racerx, $178 x 2= $356 OR $28 x 2= $56 You could have saved $300 by simple purchasing the parts yourself. DON'T buy your parts from a Chrysler dealer, even a Mercedes dealer is less expensive than Chrysler if you go to an online Mercedes dealer site. Your car is an 2003 Mercedes SLK32 for most everything mechanical and even electric, just the skin is different.
5 hours is very reasonable for labor; Hope it works out well for you.

That sucks on the price of the parts. I think my shop wanted to go through the Chrysler dealer to have confidence the parts are correct. I will see if I can find the mounts online. Would you have a part number for them by chance?
