Changed out supercharger oil
Changed out supercharger oil
Hats off to all the folks past and present who put together the how to's on these beasts! THANK YOU!. Having those service manuals in pdf format really helps. Between this forum, the Facebook groups and YOUTUBE, and if you're not afraid of getting your hands dirty, you can accomplish a lot of maintenance and fix small issues before they become big ones.
My car has just over 43K miles and although I did get some maintenance records from the prior owner, I didn't see where the supercharger oil had been addressed. I approached this based more on time then mileage. I had bought a little kit from 'fleabay' that included the Mobil 1 Jet Engine Oil, a syringe and a length of hose. I decided to go to the trouble of removing the serpentine belt (had to move the idler pulley anyway to get to the 5mm allen plug). In researching I saw where jacking up the driver's rear allowed for a more complete and easier draw of the old oil. I was able to draw and replace 3.18249 fluid ounces. While the belt was off I confirmed it was in very good shape, no cracks. I followed Paul's advice and checked all 9 pulleys for any wobble movement and felt good that there was none. The 8 pulleys (couldnt spin the crank pulley ) all spun freely with no noise.
Whilimatits took over as I decided to spruce up the engine compartment. Never Dull has been around longer then me. This is a metal polishing material that you rip a piece and just start rubbing, wiping with a soft clean cloth. Between that and Meguiars Ultimate Black, she ckeaned up pretty well. Ain't gonna' win any awards but I'm happy with the results.
Pics follow. Note the last Pic shows a purple water pump pulley. Don't think that's factory original.
Jacked up rear (there's a jack stand on the rr suspension)
Initial draw, 2 ounces of the old
The remaining old oil
All back together and spruced up.
