Default May need a new oem crank pulley (harmonic balancer)

I believe my crank pulley may be damaged. I heard a weird noise while driving today. So I popped the hood with the engine running and noticed the crank pulley had a serious wobble. It was near dark so I didn't check to see how tight the bolt on it was, but no issues with the belt, as it was tight. Everthing else looked fine under the hood. No codes were thrown either. I did a little research earlier and found a couple threads on damaged crank pulleys on here and on the mb forum. Looks like the gaskets/seals go bad on them. I need to pull mine off to be sure, but I'm suspecting this is the problem. I also read something about a mercedes recall on these crank pulleys. Just thought it was interesting, as I had not heard of this before. Anyways, just looking for some advice. Anyone have this happen to them? How common is this problem? Anyone selling a low mileage oem crank pulley? Should I buy a new one because the problem could happen again to a used pulley? BTW my crank pulley is the stock one and I've never touched it. I do have a 65mm sc pulley with a nw psk. Car has 65,000 miles. Help is appreciated, thanks.

Also, is it possible to just replace the gaskets/seals on the pulley or are they attached in such a way that this is not possible? I've never seen these crank pulleys off the car, so I'm not really familiar with them.

Same happened to me, I would buy brand new cause they have new part number to fix the problem, and no u can not fix it. there is a seal in the front that has a issue with leaking.

I have seen crank pulleys, they fail because the rubber damping part comes loose from the center hub.
There is no seal on them at all, the seal is behind the crank pulley and not attached to it. It stay in the block when you remove the pulley. it might be smart to change the oil seal while the pulley is off, but my motto is why touch it if it still works fine.
Do not drive the car with the wobbly pulley as it is in the process of coming apart and you do not want it flying loose under the hood and causing more in damage than the cost of the pulley.

Thanks for the input guys. Luckily it is not my daily driver, so I have some time to get it fixed. Anybody have recommendation on where to get one for a good price? Also, I noticed needswings sells a front crank seal and a rear crank seal. Figured I should go ahead and replace the seal, but I'm not sure which is the appropriate one.

Never buy a part for the car using a Chrysler part number, always buy the Mercedes part if possible and save up to 50% of the price.
The latest Mercedes crank pulley part number is 112 035 14 0. This is the one that should not fall apart at the rubber damper area.
Sorry this is the part for the SLK320. I'll look for the correct one.

Good to know, I was completely unaware the original crank pulley was found to be defective, and reengineered to a more rigid design. I'll add this part number to my notes for future reference. The link I posted here was off another thread in had read some time ago.

Thank you!

yea i found both of those pulleys while looking around and am gonna go with the fcpeuro one. i bought my intercooler pump from them and they shipped it out fast. also, you can't beat the lifetime replacement on all their parts.

power sedan- i don't think that holder tool will work on our cars. i found that same one on ebay and the listing said that it only works on the NA engines, not on the kompressor engines. that holder has 3 prongs and by the looks of it, I think we need a holder with 6 prongs.

Amazon.com: Mercedes Benz (M112/M113) Crankshaft Harmonic Balancer Pulley Holder: Everything Else Amazon.com: Mercedes Benz (M112/M113) Crankshaft Harmonic Balancer Pulley Holder: Everything Else

Alright, it's been awhile since I looked at the harmonic balancer holder, so this is the one sitting in my tool chest, not the SG. Although, other then prong length, I'm not sure the difference. Although I've never seen a 6 prong, only 3 prong holders for the 3.2, aspirated or NA. If there is a different tool, I'd like to know.

I just found a video on YouTube talking about the defective Mercedes harmonic balancers, and the part # 112 035 00 00, and #112 035 06 00 are the defective crank pullies, that were recalled.
The current part on mine is #112 035 15 00.

I usually check needswings for everything I need first. If Rob doesn't have it, then I look elsewhere. Needswings didn't have any crank pulleys when I checked the site, so I bought one from fcpeuro. I did end up buying a crank seal and pulley bolt from rob. I bought the pulley removal tool from sg-motorsports on ebay.

I have an almost new one for the SRT. Was replaced at less than 1K miles with a kit from RENNTech. Also have the OEM idler and Water pump pulley. The crank pulley is heavy and will be expensive to ship. Make me a reasonable offer for what you need.
