Nasty (as in bad) Sound
Nasty (as in bad) Sound
I recently had a vacuum leak issue and replaced the intake manifold gaskets which fixed the issue. Then I noticed that that there was a low grinding sound coming from the supercharger. I took the belt off and sure enough the supercharger pulley bearing needed to be replaced. I replaced that yesterday and could tell an immediate difference with the new bearing - nice and smooth. So I reinstall the supercharger pulley and everything is looking good and then I hear another sound, (there seems to be a pattern developing here!).
I attached an iPhone video which I know does not give the best audio but it may be good enough to hear the sound. Does it sound like another pulley may be making a noise? It appears to be coming from the left side of the engine.
Thanks

More updates. Drove it around the neighborhood after checking a couple of things and dash lights went off, then Head lights, then the car. Replaced battery with a spare and runs good but battery light is still on. Going to get the alternator tested. Could the alternator be making that sound?

Re: Nasty (as in bad) Sound
The alternator was replaced and the issue with the battery not charging has been resolved. However, this did not correct the vibration sound I was hearing. After further research, it was the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer. I have attached the pictures so you can see what I saw. It looks like the rubber fill was separating and moving through the back of the pulley so it was difficult to see what was going on when it was still mounted. The rubber fill was rubbing on the engine making the vibrating sound I was hearing. Good thing I caught this when I did. Again, thanks to everyone helping me out.
That harmonic balancer is DRT ("dead raight thare").
The supercharger places significant additional load on this pulley. It takes roughly 50 HP to drive the supercharger at redline on a stock car. A stacked pulley car uses 100+ HP to drive the supercharger. That is a lot of load on the belt and harmonic balancer.
