Default New Guy, Old problem

Hi Gang, Bought an SRT 6 Last Saturday and I've encountered a problem already.
Car turns over, engine starts, does it's initial rev and then shuts right off. Only happens after a trouble free first try for the day.
Turn the key more than three times, all I get is dashboard lights come on and no cranking.
If I press the fob to lock and unlock a few times, it starts. I did the RCM fix with no change. I changed batteries in fob but no luck.
New RCM ???? Thanks for helping.

Sounds like the classic faulty SKREEM symptoms to me.
Search for SKREEM problems.

Circuit board in the box with the ECU often called the K-40 relay, about $132. or you can check for bad soldering/cracks. Need more let me know.

Turns over 3 times, then nothing is SKREEM, NOT RCM/K40 or CPS issue, just like onehundred80 said above.
Don't waste your money, you'll need it for the SKREEM.

He said he did the RCM fix, which is the re-soldering of the joints.

Just curious, are the exterior lights flashing?

Why does the SKREEM go bad? Another German failure in the electronics like the RCM?

Its weird, lock and unlock from the fob or open door and close then she starts right up. I guess I will buy the skreen, put it in and see what happens.

I'd suggest you get it scanned with a DRB III to see if any trouble codes are present. The R&R of the Skreem module is typically an authorized dealership deal. A scan with a DRB III will indicate if the skreem is bad. Usually when the skreem goes bad the car will not start until the unit has been replaced. I don't believe I have seen any past post in which if you press your fob--- then the car will start, although you could be a first. Keep us posted of the outcome.

I can't say that is a symptom of the common SKREEM problem. Please don't buy anything yet.

Gang, I figured out the problem. Ironically one night out of "frustration" I slapped the key fob on my leg hard. Put key in and it started right away. Subsequently each time it started and shut off I smacked the fob and it started every time. I checked battery tabs to amke certain they were tight, yes. New battery, same outcome. Slap it and it worked fine. Got new key from Needs and it is perfect. No problem since. The security id obviously wasn't working without being jarred so it would shut down. Thanks fo everyones help.

Awesome, that's great news. Glad to hear it wasn't the SKREEM.

The security chip thingey in the key fob is not powered, so replacing the batteries would have no effect, however if it came loose inside the fob and migrated away from the sensor ring at the ignition switch, this could be the problem.
In your spare time, take the old fob apart and see if this is what happened.

Sounds on track.. I replaced my case.. and barely had the chip out of position and had the "start-die" syndrome.. realized my case wasn't quite closed as it was sitting on the chip "out of place".. fixed that and all was good. Buy the blank case before you do this.. I'm 3 for 3 on having to destroy the old one to get the guts out..
