Bang for the Buck!!!
Bang for the Buck!!!
It has been raining here for the last week and a half or so and finally today is clear and cool.
After finishing my weekend chores, I reward myself with a spirited drive via backroads and some interstate blasts.
I bought a 1999 996 Carrera this past spring and have been driving it most weekends and sometimes after work during the week. I took it out for about 1/2 hour and it is a lot of fun to drive, being a 6 speed.....a good time!
Next I took out the SRT6 Roadster. I've never driven these cars back to back until today.
WOW! The SRT6 is the best $15k I've ever spent on a car(almost 6 years ago) in my 57 years of life!!! And, I have gone thru many cars since my first one at 15 years old.
The SRT6 is virtually unmodified except for a Eurocharged ECU/TCU tune, intercooler isolator and Johnson coolant pump.
This car has never given me a day of grief, regret or worry.
I absolutely love it.
I had to share this with somebody who understands. So many are ignorant of this car.
Good for us!!

Re: Bang for the Buck!!!
Great post! It is indeed an awesome car for the money with the power you get. Such a gem that not too many know about. Or even realized there was a SRT version. Before my 6 I had a ProCharged 02 C5 Z06...Realized it was just too damn fast, big and couldn't enjoy it without getting in very big trouble. I just had a bad feeling about it.
I too love my manuals. But even though the 6 did not come in a manual, The "shift" mode on it is nice. I believe it is WAY more refined then the C5 is.

Re: Bang for the Buck!!!
It really IS a bargain!! Everyone who sees it for the first time think it is brand new too. The design is very fresh. Ever since I got the wonderful paddle shifters I haven't missed having a manual transmission. The one thing that still amazes me is how much easy and relatively cheap potential whp was still in the engine for an AMG design. I see three times more Ferarris in the DC area than Crossfires, and have only seen one other SRT on the road in 3 years! Would you mind saying a bit more about your back to back testing? I've never driven a Carerra...

Re: Bang for the Buck!!!
I honestly feel the same way. I bought mine off an eBay auction last February. Every time I have it out, or sitting at a stoplight, I notice others pointing at the XF. I rarely seen other Crossfires, and only recall ever seeing two other SRT's XF's on the road, probably 4 or 5 years ago. So the raritie of this vehicle is pretty cool!
It's insane how much money I've dumped info my LX to obtain performance numbers this XF achieves with very little modifications. Of course weight ratio is a huge plus!

Give it some time. Collectors will want one in their collections. Once an SRT6 goes across the auction block and sells for decent money, it will peak curiosity. When the masses learn the numbers produced, the performance, the lineage and the business history between Daimler & Chrysler, supply and demand will come into play.
They may not reach epic $$, but we'll get back every dime at least.
This is my opinion. I really enjoy owning this car. It is one of my all time favorites to date.
Re: Bang for the Buck!!!
Very encouraging all this! But if the SRT6 is rare in the US, consider the UK situation: only 118 in rhd UK spec (down to around 100 now) of which about 2/3 are 'verts, so only about 40 coupes!
Not surprisingly, I've never seen another SRT6 on the road either...
Most fun car I've ever had, incl. various quick Beemers and Volvos.
The performance bargain of the decade - possibly of two decades, now!
