Default speed limiter

Hi all, has anyone disconnected the speed limiting device on their crossy? jist wondering how fast you could get one to go.

It is not a device, it is in the PTCM code.
And yes, it can be altered.
I have seen threads in the past 'claiming' that an SRT6 has done 179 MPH, but have never seen any proof.

I have heard claims as well....but I am one who has tried to push the limit. I can run up to 160 in just under a mile...but as I approach the 150 mark, it is slow going.... I have managed 160 several times in the coupe and in the roadster. The coupe is much quicker getting up there...but I have only moved the needle over 160 once and it was obvious I would need another mile to top it out, and I just didn't have that much room. 10000' runways just isn't going to give you room to top it out and shut it down... Maybe those out west have a good 4 or 5 mile stretch of asphalt, but none around here.

I do believe that a modded SRT could reach that but proof? You would have to get a radar clocked ticket for proof and then they would never let you drive again. My SRT is highly modded but I have enough sense to NOT shoot for the limit.

Been trying to find a way to try to get on an old air force base north of me, but it is under federal control still today. It has a 15000' runway. It is really the only safe place to try to top one out. In theory, 6000 rpms in 3.07 gearing will net somewhere between 176-186...but you will need the HP to get there. Stock won't get it...too many other factors to over come, like drag, wind in general... Most airports are windy from the lack of trees and such. It will always be a topic of discussion. Just under 165 has been my best so far until I can find some safe flatland...

OK not in an SRT but .............

I was on Hwy 28
heading west between Sault Ste Marie and Munising, in the upper peninsula of Michigan along the Canadian border.
It was literally a 111 mile stretch of road with 2 lanes each way divided with a wide grass median and wide open grassy land on each side as far as you could see
I was running with a few other Crossfires here after we left the Woodward Dream Cruise a few years ago.
We were on a road trip up to Mackinaw and beyond.
Anyway the road was wide open on a sunny afternoon around 3pm.
I couldn't resist the opportunity to see how fast I could top out my NA.
I don't have a clue how much distance it took but I topped it out at 155mph and at that moment I glanced at my clock and noted the time and kept it topped out at 155mph for just under 8 minutes.
I got nervous that I might encounter another car by then but during that time I felt like the only person on earth.
Virtually no cars anywhere other than the 3 Crossfires I had left behind in our group.
No worry I told them what I was about to do before I stomped it.
After that run I just let up on the pedal and coasted back down to around 45mph before even applying the brakes to stop and wait for the others to catch back up to rejoin me for the day drive.
This is a moment I will never forget although it is not the only time I topped her out but certainly the best time.

They really handle the speed very well. The engineers did a good job in the wind tunnel for sure...

Well you two have more cohones than I, when younger, I would have but now, never. As an x-ray tech, I've seen too many body parts not connected, Kudos to ya for testing the limits, like Chuck Yeager! LOL

I allegedly had my roadster to 140 one afternoon and the SRT6 to 150 another. I also did a long 20 mile run between St Ignes and SSM at 130. But that was years ago and I am over it now.

The only "speed limiting device" I know of are the brakes. You might want to keep those intact.

I recall a post of one guy heading to church on a Sunday where there was a good straight section and he got it near 180mph.
Went to church and said his thank you prayers....(well that part is an embellishment)
Cant find the post using search "church"

-Sorry man....but I will never believe this car will see 180.... It needs 2 more cylinders. No doubt the V-8's could. The wind resistance really starts to work on this car at 165 and you need the HP to over come it.... Maybe on a really long stretch on a calm Sunday morning, but I doubt it.

I'll see if I can find the post - it was about 2 years ago. There may have been a slight downhill slope involved as well....
I laughed at the time when I read it 'cause he did mention he was on his way to church...probably related to some form of confession...;>)

Well, I think many get up there and feel that it could go further, but that isn't the case. I have done a few 1/2 mile events with the car and have talked a lot with those that have done the 180-200+ runs in the 1 mile events. You need the horses to make it happen or a hell of a long flat calm stretch. Think about how hard you are working the car if it takes you 4 or 5 miles to take it up there. I have had some long runs on the interstates here. It is a great car to drive in those 140-145 areas, but it starts to work after that...

You may well be right, the aerodynamics of our car aren't as slippery as the Ferraris, McClarens, Paganis, etc. Some work would have to be done to make it more slippery. The new Z06 'Vette tops out at 185 due to aero devices to add downforce and they are pumping out 650 hp.

The fastest Ive ever gone is 143 mph in my Crossie. It was on a warm sunny stretch of I-57 somewhere between Bradley and Peotone IL. I was crusing @70 mph on my way home from work. I had this Chevy Malibu a-hole who would not get off my rear. She was so close I thought she was in the trunk. I didnt know if she was taking pictures of my *** or what. I change lanes to let her pass and she would change lanes with me. This went on for about 5 minutes too long. When the coast was clear, I let my foot down and after a milisecond or 2 the Crossfire took off!! That a-hole quickly became a speck in my rear view.

Once I reached about 90, the car seem to breathe a sigh of relief. The engine wasnt screaming any more, more like roaring. The rpms slowed a bit but the speedometer kept creeping up to 100 - then 120 - 130. When she reached about 143 I took my feet off the accellerator and let her find her way back to its original cruise control setting of 70. About 10-15 minutes later...Lil Miss Chevy Malibu and crew caught up to me with their I-phone pointed at me. I didnt know we were in a photo shoot. We nodded our approval as I let her pass. Every window in her Malibu had a face pinned to it. They went on their merry way...to annoy other fellow travelors.

Id never forget the experience. The car acted as if it wanted to do more. She handled so well that i didnt get nervous until after I slowed back down. As Road Warrior Hawk of WCW fame would say...OOOOOOOOOH, WHAT A RUUUUUUUUUUUUSH!!!

Yes but can that be recorded? You might get that speed by throwing it off a cliff, I meant on paper identifying the car and speed. You know, just like everyone needs to see your 1/4 mile slip for proof. LOL

Since the stock spec is 158mph, I can see a few mods getting you to about 170. After that your return on investment to get up to 180+ would be hard fought.
