Get one of the cheapy code readers or an ULTRAGAUGE and read the codes yourself!

A CEL is often NOTHING to worry about, hell, a bad gas cap seal or broken solder on the RCM can throw a code! With mine, I had 100,000 mile old spark plugs and it was throwing misfire codes EVERY TIME I drove it. Plugs and plug wires and I'm good!

Check engine lights are nothing to panic about. Try Auto Zone. Or buy yourself a cheap reader. Hell, try disconnecting your battery cable for a few minutes and see if it clears itself. Sporty cars do require a little more maintenance than the boring cars...just sayin'

Buy an inexpensive code reader from Harbor Freight, you can get a fairly good one for right around $100, but as low as $59, you will not regret it. One of the best investments that I've made.

The best 60 bucks you can spend
Many here including myself have one of these
Reads you codes and allows you to reset them everytime
Plugs into your OBD2 port and can be left connected at all times to monitor nearly 70 functions

UltraGauge OBDII Scan tool & Information Center

Might be time to just buy a new RCM. I did for mine when I couldnt get it soldered. As long as your air pump works, it is likely the relay. Sounds like it went bad again. One quick way to check is to open up the relay and look for bad solder points on the air pump relay and check and see if that bronze color plate with the lil magnet dot is burnt up. If it is the air pump relay is no good.

I agree. recheck the relay. If the pump is running, it must be fine. check connections around the pump, but it is being powered. Maybe the new relay is stuck....

I thought DJ put new points in but anything is possible but the air pump got so. Hot I could not touch it and the smell of buring wires was strong ..so even know the air pump is turning on it may have a short or someting not working right in it throwing the code?? If I had the money right now I would replace both hahaha.. ( this is good info thank you)

Ok, wait a minute.

You say the pump is running? Then the RCM and relay are fine.

You say the pump is getting hot? Sounds like the pump itself is not right, it's airway is clogged (the additional load on the motor would cause it to get hot).

If the pump is running, forget about the damn RCM, the pump itself is bad/clogged/stuck/etc.

And the P401 code is no bid deal, anyway. It just means your cats don't heat up as fast and your emissions are SLIGHTLY higher for a bit until the cats heat up. No big deal. I do'nt like to drive a car with the light on, but it's not the end of the world or anything.

Fred. Not the RCM. You have a brand new relay.
Mark is right (this time ). Need to look at the pump.

Does the air pump run and cutoff or does it stay running and you have to unplug it?
